Where do you get rid of old brake discs in UK?

hi all, curious where are people in the UK being able to dispose of old brake discs and other parts they have replaced on their vehicle? My local home refuge/recycling centre refuses to take them and my local scrap metal merchants doesn't want them for some reason?

I just drop them into the metal bin at the local recycling centre, they're cast iron for the most part,

That’s odd, most of the “Civic Amenity” sites have a scrap metal skip that earns them a good few quid- yours aren’t glowing green?
I’d try a different tip

Usually your local council recycling centre (AKA Local Tip) will happily take scrap metal. If not, just put them in the general waste skip/hopper.

Check online with your council before you go if you want to turn up informed as to what they do/ don’t take.

We save up a few years of knackered batteries and old car parts like discs and then weight them in for scrap. Usually walk out with comfortably over a £100.

Our local scrap yard will take them, but have taken to the tip before despite listing they don’t take them. I’ve also been known to put them in our recycling bin as that accepts metal.

Jamiehol, I never though about the recycling bin, metal is metal right? I think the guys at my local recycling base have a bit of a dictator complex and are particularly awkward however, as of yesterday, we have been notified that they are currently closed indefinitely so that makes the recycling bin all the more attractive! Thumbs Up

Exactly my thoughts metal is metal.

Some of the folks working at our recycling centre can be a bit like that it.

Our local tip won't take anything that looks like a car part end off! They tell users to take them to a scrap dealer...

There does seem to be some confusion and it depends who you see I have found.

My local site states this

I think the operative word here is 'servicing items' - when I challenged them and said that brake discs were serviceable items as I just changed them - during a car service - they scratched their head's went away to talk with the head tea maker and came back and said - " yeah OK mate, chuck them in the metal' which is what I have done ever since ! L405 4.4 V8 Vogue SE Santorini Black

I generally don't ask. Although for the most part they do a great job, I'd rather not get involved in any debate, as long as you seem to know what you're doing at the tip they leave you to it.

Web advice for brake pads & shoes is the metal skip, I'd have thought not, but they say metal recycling so that's where I put those.

Most general consumption parts I must be honest I just chuck in the home grey bin and the boxes in the recycling, i.e. bushes, bulbs, bits & bobs. Anything of any scrap value I'll take to the tip, shocks, filters, batteries, oil, heavy duty metal parts like discs, springs etc.

Although they've just stopped taking tyres, so you have to go to the local garage and pay £2 each to get rid of those now. Fuji White 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westmiinster

They have just recently closed the household recycling centre (tip) for my area due to subsidence making it unsafe for cars apparently. I guess we are going to start seeing many roadside abstract art ensemble (otherwise known as 'fly-tipping') cropping up all over!
