New tyres-Should i replace the TPMS?

Just bought new tyres for the FF. The TPMS works fine at the minute.

Should i be thinking of fitting new TPMS or wait till they die?

How old are they? If original, replace... Batteries only last so long. Previously..

My newer wheels have TPMS valves but the car doesn't have TMPS do I leave 'em alone or get them taken off and replaced with std ones? Geoff

The current TPMS are coming up to six years old. How long do the batteries last, any idea?

T24res - they look exactly what you need. You might be able to get them a bit cheaper, there were a coupe of sellers doing sets of 4 for £30-40 a while back

Super shuttle - if you car doesn't have TPMS better to replace with normal valves. As the TPMS valves age the alloy can deteriorate - some people have snapped the valves when filling their tyres with air!
Easier and safer just to use a normal valve, however you've probably got 5-6 years before it becomes an issue!! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Batteries are supposed to last anything from 5-7+ years but it depends on where you drive as the monitoring frequency changes (IIRC lots of motorway will result in fewer 'connections' resulting in a longer battery life) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

My car was built in 2005 (May) and the TPMS is still going. Mind you, the car has been sitting still for 2 years after it was imported from the US into Nigeria and only had 48,000 miles on it. I added about 10,000 since. So they are well past 8 years and I'm kicking myself that I didn't get that whole batch of TPMS valves (both UK and US frequencies) as I would have been able to sell you a set quite cheaply (while keeping a set for myself spare).

Looking at the potential lifetime of tyres, depending on how many miles you do per year, it is to be expected that yours would run out of battery before the next tyre change.

I assume that you don't have any TPMS issues (neither do I, they work very well) like a lot of people on here that have subsequently switched them off. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

OK, looks like i'll get a set off of the bay. I've had no issues so far and will keep with them.

How can you tell if you have TPMS fitted? I have a 2006 TD6 with 18" wheels. Obviously I cant take the tyres off the wheels to see. Do TPMS valve stems look different to the naked eye from the ordinary ones?
I suppose I could let the air out of the tyres and see what happens Very Happy
