Update on battery drain.

Well, after closing the OBD port and swapping the 10 month old Alphaline 100Ah battery for the original Exide 95Ah (which I thought was dead and finished and has been sitting in my garage ever since), I am delighted to report I have had no further drainage problems.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday and was fully expecting to have to jump start the FF, but to my astonishment it started 1st time! Very Happy

I understand that closing the OBD port makes no difference to battery drain (thanks stan/@SKOT for following up on that), so I'm putting my problems down to a crap quality battery. What I should point out is, I changed the battery first when I started getting drainage problems in winter 2012 and when that didn't make any difference I then swapped the FSR. In hindsight, I should have replaced the FSR first, as I don't think I needed to buy a new battery after all.

So my advice to other forum members is don't buy the Alphaline Battery from Performance Batteries as I don't think it's up to the job (despite it being the one they suggest for FFRRs too). For the time being it seems there's plenty of life left in my old Exide battery (last tested in December 2011!). This is the one I currently have and at £83 including delivery, that seems a bargain to me (c.£30-£40 cheaper than the Bosch Silver 110Ah)!
