Battery Charging Advice

My Rover sat for eight or nine weeks without being driven or started. I know better Embarassed. Now I believe I need to charge the battery. I have read the procedures for battery removal and reconnection, but I have a few questions (probably silly) about vehicle access with the battery removed.

1) I believe the driver's door has a mechanical lock and will open without the battery. Is this correct?

2) Will the latch for the hood (bonnet for you gentlemen) operate with the battery removed, or is it an electronic mechanism?

3) Do I ned to worry about the pyrotechnic charge for the terminal post when connecting the charger?

I can only help you with 3. There are battery terminals to use under the bonnet. You don't attach anything to the actual battery because of the pyro charge. I'd recommend a getting a full charge BEFORE trying to start the vehicle. Charging a very low battery is very hard on the alternator, and they aren't cheap.

The drivers door does have a mechanical lock, sadly they usually seize and you can't get in when such an emergency arises Big Cry

The bonnet is cable operated, you only need to get past that seized door lock to be able to pull the lever Laughing Laughing

When connecting the terminals try and do it without causing too many sparks Thumbs Up

If you have a tow bar and electrics of course you don't need to get into the car at all to charge the battery if the need arises.
Simply connect your battery charger to the appropriate connections on the towbar electrics.

I pulled the battery without incident, and the battery is now charging. Now I hope it takes a charge and there are no underlying electrical issues.

Thank you for the replies.

I have never heard of this before but it sounds pretty good. I have 13 pin and LR loom, can I simply get a spare 13 pin male and have 2 leads running from it ???... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Would it be possible to put a 3 pin plug onto that and charge the battery from the mains? Whistle

I wonder which would pop first... The rear fuse board or the battery.... Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
