Ok, I've looked at the diagrams and think I have worked it out based on the above thread. Now to go and do it.

Lastly (I hope), what does one do with the not-mentioned wires 11 (Slate) and 39 (Black). They are not shown in the pinout diagrams. Pin 11 (C0947-11) goes to the ECU Navigation C0897-12. Pin 39 (C0947-39) isn't referenced at all in RAVE but, as it's black, I assume it's ground. I haven't yet checked it. (C0947 is the 54-pin connector.) Ron B. VK2OTC

I've shorted the appropriate input wires to the VRM to the output wires and it's looking good so far.

I get Activate Pairing, the Bluetooth Pairing. The unit pairs with the message Pairing Successful but it immediately disconnects then reverts to Bluetooth Pairing.

BT Range is woeful at the moment. The iPhone 5 has to be in the rear to see the ULF. I tried a couple of iPhones (4s and 5 but I still have an iPhone 4 and 6 I can try ).

I'm going to try my two Samsungs (Android and a flip phone) Ron B. VK2OTC

It's working. Thank you all.

The low range was because I'd forgotten to plug the BT antenna cable into the bottom of the ULF.

The other problem was due to me not understanding how the system worked.

Interestingly, my cheap Samsung Galaxy transfers all the phone numbers on the phone to the ULF so I can select from them on the Rangie's screen - not that I would, there are too many of them. The iPhones don't transfer any (on this version of the ULF). As an aside, the Samsung gives a display of BT signal strength in dBm. I was getting -93dBm with the antenna cable disconnected and the Samsung in the boot. I should measure again with the antenna connected.

Audio quality isn't as good as the old phone system. Now to read the BMW BT handbook and this one: http://www.carnationsoftware.com/carnation...rol-en.pdf

I have a few spare wires left over in the voice recognition module plug. Luckily, three four of these are exactly what I need to connect into the iBus to run Navcoder http://www.navcoder.com/

I bought a Rolf Resler USB-iBus interface http://www.reslers.de/IBUS/index.html so I'll connect it and go and have a play.

I'd like to get the coloured PDF file (I assume it was an Excel file) to update it for info on the voice recognition module. Ron B. VK2OTC

Hmm, the poor quality may have been due to a flat battery! Did the ULF drain the battery overnight? Ron B. VK2OTC

My sound was crap until today found a little 2 Chanel Chinese amp on the bay and fitted that in line sound is now absolutely perfect can control it off the steering wheel for up and down volume.
Bolted it under the sat Nav where the voice module used to be.
10 pound fix.

With a charged battery it seems OK. What is noticeable is when the phone rings, it has a very pronounced click before each ring.

Now that I'm satisfied it's working, I'll tidy it up. I'm presently using the O-1 switch in the eject box as the pairing button. I removed all the not-required wires from the 18-pin plug, moved one of the two remaining wires and now the switch does what I need. (The two wires go back to the rear, one is earth and the other is the new pairing wire pin 32 - the white wire that was originally on pin 2.) Ron B. VK2OTC

That's good news then. When I had a really old Sony mobile I used to get text messages on the car screen too, but that went away when I changed phone to a later one...

I liked how once you set it up, you could use voice recognition and say Dial Home, or Dial Dad etc. Never really scrolled through the phone book after that.

Thumbs Up

As an aside, I can't do that on my 2011 TDV8 as it tells me it's not long enough - have to do like Dial Dad at Home, and if I then try to set up Dial Dad Mobile, it says they are too similar. Progress eh Rolling with laughter 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I didn't bother with the pairing button in the front just put one in the back compartment once paired it remembers the pairing even if you take the battery lead off. I have nav coder too so I can pair with that if need be.

If you have low volume I can recommend adding a little amp though.

I was wrong. I didn't give it enough time. My iPhone 5 transferred my address book. There's just too many entries in it. Ron B. VK2OTC

My iPhone 5 worked fine. If you select phone on the steering wheel the track up down scrolls through the phone book on the single line display under the speedo.

No matter what the car is doing, if you press the phone button on the steering wheel twice, it redial the last number.

Might help a little bit. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Or just set voice commands for the common numbers like "Dial Home". Don't need to use phonebook or take eyes off the road at all then.....

Yes, I've done that. I was initially confused in that I thought it would be like the iPhone where one asks for the name as saved in the phone (not that the iPhones have ever understood my requests - the Rangie does) and it would read the iPhone contact list. Ron B. VK2OTC

I looked at the phone eject box and decided to mod it rather than replace it. As noted earlier, I incorporated the switch in the box to become the pairing button.

Firstly, I cut up a broken CD case to make a new bottom for the eject box rear. I also cut a couple of pieces to cover the holes where the little gear wheels were located. I superglued these into the box but, on reflection, epoxy might have made a neater job in the corners. The CD cases are probably polystyrene and they break easily. I scored both sides with a Stanley knife then snapped the pieces in half.

The eject box, stripped of electronics and the pieces glued in. The dark area is where the superglue has spread.

I masked off the box and sprayed the inside with satin black enamel.

I cut some thin (3mm) foam I had left over from doing the vent flaps in the 110 County and laid it in the tray.

I mentioned the pairing button. Here it is in the eject box. That's not it's original use. It switched the handset on and off.

That slide switch operates the switch in the very centre of a circuit board mounted below the box. Note how I've cut all the unused wires. We only need the brown and brown/green which go to the switch contacts.

At the plug end of the PC board cable, again I've cut most of the wires and I've moved the two remaining wires to pins 2 and 6 so that they mate up with the pairing wires that go back to the rear compartment. The outer cover of the plug is removed to do this, it is refitted when complete.

All finished and reinstalled in the car. No longer a phone eject box but another cubby hole.

To use the pairing switch, with the ignition off, slide the switch to the O position. Wait for at least a second, and then turn the ignition switch to I or II. Wait for 3 seconds and slide the switch back to I. The screen with now say Phone Pairing. Enter the ULF pairing code into your phone and you are done. Leave the eject box switch in position. Ron B. Is it possible to clear the ULF of stored phone numbers?

I bought a ULF from Lukie and the Top 8 numbers it displays are all in the UK - probably Lukie's mates or massage parlours. Razz

I suspect the latter as there also a number of SMS messages to him(?) from UK phone numbers telling him about cheap hookers, men being found in toilets, etc. Laughing

Should I repeat them here? Twisted Evil Ron B. VK2OTC

@p38arover
Thumbs Up Congratulations for your tutorial.

Can we just put a switch in the ejection box without cutting all the wires?
