High Mileage Land Rovers

Its very interesting to note that over on the D3 Forum there are several owners that have done in excess of 250,000 miles in a standard TDV6 with no engine, Gearbox or Turbo problems. One has even done 475,000 with no problems....

Just goes to show that the Jaguar engine & associated transmission are built to last if treated properly Thumbs Up

Err they arent jag engines IIRC, but really PSA with a rebadge Wink

The PSA guys put most of the design into it as they are the best for diesels, just look at how many XUD engines have broken 2-300k without much work, and they take plenty of unserviced abuse Smile

its nice to know and re-assure as i would bet a lot is down to the sump design as the extra oil must give it a better life per service Smile

I also know of a few TDV6 2.7 engines which have totally destroyed themselves at low mileage...

FLRSH, careful owners in both cases, engines literally tore themselves apart, sump oil full of every bit of imaginable different metal, bearings, etc etc. engines taken out and removed and the causes would not be revealed - educated guess timing failure...

I guess most things mechanical will fail for various reasons but most will go on for ages and ages if treated well and driven long distances and fast occasionally as well as doing the school run......

PS The guy thats done 500,000mls is on the Motorway all day most days so this proves that Motorway work is good for the engine Thumbs Up

its the same for any car though Gaz. the engine will get upto temp nicely if the engine isnt being thrashed and then stay at a steady RPM most of the day.

Thats why genset engines last so long..

at 500k though he must have deep pockets or run tankers to the local petrol station Very Happy

The high miler on disco3.co.uk is "character"; he collects and delivers vehicles for a living, so plenty of long trips. The more surprising thing is that the D3 has done half a million miles towing a three ton trailer.

I would hate to haul a loaded 3 ton trailer around..Hauled a 44 tonne truck around for 7 years and that was bad enough

I quite like it, even towing the 1.9tonnne twin axle tourer recently was a doddle and the manouvering is even easier with car trailers Smile

Used to travel a lot working for telewest in some big iveco daily's and spoent half my days on the road and didnt mind it at all Smile

Music you want, seat you want, air the way you want it, and traffic can mostly be avoided if you know the roads and where you want to go Smile

Just the fuel bills would scare me as think about 20-23mpg avg for a disco 3 with 3 tonne on the back would be horrendous cost over 500k, even with VAT off...
