Also, on a related note.....I remember fitting LEDs to the interior of a Lexus some years ago. Because the original lights used to "fade" out (like turning a dimmer down) the LEDs didn't like this at all. They were far more suited to a binary on / off application. I'm sure LED light technology has moved on since but it's worth bearing in mind as far as I can remember the FF puddle lights do the fading thing.

Just one to bear in mind....... 2006 4.2 SC

hi guys

yes that is quick and clever thinking. but i did think about that and i have turned the offending bulb 180 and tried that but it still does the same thing Question Question Question Question i have also contacted the chief at powerfuluk.com where i bought the bulbs and the MD has just emailed me and said that this is the 2nd complaint they have had with these bulbs and they have taken the matter up with OSRAM UK, and is going to get back to me hopefully tomorrow. they do look very cool so hopefully the answer will be found.

if not i will have a blue door and a white door Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes all i need now is a red one and i have the french flag colours where i live Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter < well i think thats the colours anyway Embarassed Embarassed

Can you swap them door to door? That will definitely tell you if the bulb is at fault. 2006 4.2 SC

hi skot, firstly i can confirm that they do fade out when they or should i say it goes out. i have changed the one around into the other door and it works, ie the paessenger side bulb which noes not stay on, works fine when i put it in the drivers side. i have not tried the drivers side one in the passenger side as i could not see the point. as both white original bulbs work fine in either side Question

system works

HI EVERYONE

just to add to my last post regarding the failure of the blue led bulbs. i think it it is a bulb polarity problem as suggested by stan.

when both white bulbs are installed the system works as required.

if i install one white ( original bulbs ) and one blue they both work fine as required in either side

but when both blues are installed then they will not come on.

i have rotated each bulb 180 in each side and makes no difference.

i have passed these finding onto the suppliers and they are taking it up with OSRAM, who make the bulbs.

so if you have any other possible causes i would be very interested in listening.

kind regards to you all

bob

it does work and easy to do..you prise the two contacts from the ols bulb and solder in line with the new led..tape it up and tuck inside the mirror housing..only one side needs to be done.. ... - .- -.

This is effectively putting a low resistance in series with the LED. As the LED draws very little current, the old globe probably won't light up, and its resistance won't change a lot as the current flows through it but it will slightly reduce the voltage on the LED.

Generally, when people have LED issues (and it's not a polarity issue), they put a low value resistor in parallel with the LED, not in series, to increase the current flow though the sensing circuit. Ron B. VK2OTC

I thought that was why they introduced " Canbus" led bulbs and presumed they had a resistor built in. Am I wrong?
