puddle lights in wing mirrors of vogue on a 54 plate

hi everyone

i have re worded my last post as it could be easy to think i am asking about the door puddles lights instead of the intended mirror lights;

i wish to change the bulbs in the underside of the MIRRORS.

has anyone done this and do i just ( for want of another word ), lever the lens out the same as the door puddle lights?

i have tried this but the lenes seem very thin and i has already cracked one?

or is the whole mirror removed?

kind regards

bob

Hi Bob, you will need to remove the wing mirror cover to get to the bulb from inside, its easy to do you just need to be brave when removing the cover, ..........start from under the mirror i just use my fingers then the outside edge before lifting off from the top. You may break the odd tang but it still goes back ok.........

hi steve;

that sounds a bit scary mate. does the whole cover come off or just the top half?

i assume this is the only way,??

i ask because powerfuluk.com, seem to insist that the lens module under the wing mirror which holds the bulb is removed from the mirror housing by way of levering the whole thing out?

they have even sent me a copy of the picture from the work shop manuel showing the part number??

im not saying you are wrong steve but is it normal to actually have to renew the bulb the way you suggest?

kind regards

bob

HI MATE

yes it makes you wonder why these designers come up with the idea of having to remove the complete mirror cover, and break half the lugs in the process, just to get at a Censored Censored Censored bulb Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

what the Censored were they thinking off. Exclamation however i have found out that there are actually two styles of wing mirror that could have been fitted to this year, one appears to be not as bulky looking as the other,. the earlier mirror, the bulb is replaced as you have mentioned, and later mirror, the bulb is replaced by levering out the actual module which houses the bulb. this module and the lens is all in one. the range rover sport is fitted with the later one from 2005, my reg before i re registered it was a very late 54 so perhaps the lens does come out from under the housing afterall but im doing it wrong??

i will let you know the outcome.

as a matter of interest what is the difference in looks of a early mirror ( i guess upto early 2004 ) and the later mirror from POSSIBLY latr 2004 onwards??? do you know Joe,,,???

it might clarify one way or another what i actually have fitted.

regards

bob

HI JOE; no worries, and hi beanoraa, i have seen the vid on you tube. that is what has started this all off. i bought the bulbs from them and trying to figure how to get at the bulb i tried doing what there video shows by levering the module out from under the mirror but just the lens is moving and im worried it will break. there video is on a sport. mine is a vogue . so im just trying to find out what mirrors i have which will tell me whether i attempt to remove the covers as joe has suggested, of to continue trying to lever the modules out from under the housing.

i wish i had not bought the blue upgrade bulbs now ha ha. how difficult must it be change a Censored bulb aye

best wishes

bob

hi everyone, just to let you know that my mirrors are the later type and i have managed to remove the mirror puddle light modules from under the mirrors by flicking out the module with a screwdriver. as suggested for the 2005 sport

HOWEVER Censored Whistle Censored Whistle Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter how about this for a strange fault.

the original white bulbs work perfect in each puddle light,; ok now i have inserted the new blue led bulbs.

when i press the key fob to open the doors at night, the drivers mirror bulb comes on and stays on as normal, but the passenger bulb flashes just once as i hit the button, then goes out; if i put the original white bulb back in, it comes on and stays on as normal??? but when putting the blue one back in, it just flashes once and goes out??? Censored Censored Censored i thought there must be somthing faulty with the bulb so i put the one that just flashes once, into the drivers side and Censored me, it works fine Question Question

so that shows that both white and both blue bulbs are working ok : and the fact that the white ones work normally in both sides shows that the connections in the mirrors are fine Question Question Question , so what an earth can be the problem. you replies will be interesting if someone can figure that one out i would be very suprised, but having said that, you do seem to be a rather clever bunch of guys Bow down Bow down Bow down Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
