led upgrade

hi all, started messing around with led's, i want the pure white light effect so i started buying various led's

these were for the reading lights and the two small round lights on the dash ends

these were firstly for the side lights but were to bright so i used the for the 2 main interior lights

these are for the rear doors front doors and tail gate lights, i bought them with the error free warning but found out you dont need that as they effect the warning system

these are meant to be 2w and are for the puddle lamps on the mirror

I first changed my side lights with xenon white, these had the warning circuit built in and do work with out any warnings, these have 2 led's on each one, i did try the 4x led bulb but found them to bright.

I then started on the interior, the door lower lights, they made a big difference at night, they lit up the floor nicely.

the next ones were the 2 in the tail gate, again these gave better lighting in the boot area

I then done the 2 main interior lights,i used the led's i got for the side lights but found to bright.

i then went on the mirrors, these are a bit tricky to get the covers of but be patient and don't force it..
this is with the normal lamp, they never lit up the floor that well i supposed that's why they changed them on the later models

and with the led it is brighter and i would say at night they do shine up the door and floor.

I am still waiting for the led festoons to turn up for the foot wells and boot area, should be any day now will post what they look light.
overall i am happy with them and i have had my battery go flat after a day messing with the car, these are far less drain on the battery so that's good.

Do you not find them too harsh for the interior? I like the fact the lights are not bright Cool Discovery 4 HSE

Hi daveo, could you tell us where you got the 4x leds from and any part number. I want bright side lights to use as daytime running lights. Many thanks.
Stewart.

Thanks for pushing the envelope out with mods like this Thumbs Up Bow down

This really helps the rest of us out Thumbs Up

Do the interior lights still fade in/out?

Is the light projection too narrow, so you may get a brighter light fitting and surrounding area, but mot much elsewhere? Java with Ivory 2006 4.2 Supercharged. 23.5k miles - NOW SOLD!

hi, i know what you mean about them being harsh, but now i have got use to the new look i do like it,
yes they do fade out and the light is even, the main interior lights have diffusers so that helps. the reading lights are more narrow but that's the way the holder has been made, what you will find is that like the reading lights you have to put the holder in first and ten the bulb from the out side as they have a wider collar.

what i have found is that some suppliers lights differ all be the look the same, i have tried to keep around 6000k this is a bright white light any thing over 7000k will start to have a blue tint to it, now i think that looks better if you have black or blue interior V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

hi swg, if you want them as day light running you will need the 5x led 360 degree led's, they are the same as i have but you need the ones with the no error warning, make sure they have forward facing led's

hi, you need the 36mm festoons, i am waiting for a few types to turn up, single, double and quad led ones, these will need to have the error warning free...but the ones for the interior can be normal,

hi all, i will add more when the festoons turn up, i don't know how the number plate lights will work but i have seen a few late bmw's that have them fitted from the factory. now looking at stop/tail,fogs and indicators, i want clear leds as i have s/c rear lights, i like the way led's come on instantly and fill they are more brighter V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
