Yep, bought a plug and play cable off ebay for the video in.. slots in between an existing lead.. I think I swapped a pin to plumb the wiring where I wanted it. Wired a relay up to the reverse lights to provide a negative to the plug when required to flip the screen to the camera.

Camera is NTSC format not Pal, got one of ebay for £13 from Hong Kong inc postage.. make sure you get one specific for reverse.

Made my own bracket for it, sprayed it black.. fed the leads through the tailgate with some additional protection for the wires. One hole drilled in the lower back bumper for the bolt for the bracket... points such that the towball is in shot but to the side so I also have a fair view to the rear of other stuff.

There was a thread on the other forum

Here is some info half way down the page

And the wiring diagram for the relay

Well worth the effort

make sure your interface lead has the input for the reverse camera or you will end up with it on the av channel,
you need to use pin 17 in the blue plug, when this is grounded via your relay/switch it will switch you monitor over automatically V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Thanks for the replies.

Just a couple of questions:

Will this camera do:

If not any links to 1 that will?

Also can someone provide a link to the type of cable required?

Cheers

No it needs to be NTSC not PAL to keep things simple.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Color-Video-Came...5ad26a3041 Should do the trick. I got some Ali plate then drilled a hole in to fit the camera to... then bend the plate to give the right shot.. and bolt to the lower edge of the bumper in the centre or as near to as I could to allow for the towbar. That way you don't need to drill any of the bodywork at all.

the lead you need

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E46-E39-X5-Z4-Au...27b1fcd859

but you may need to swap pin 17

Then a relay from an automotive store, couple of metres of wire and some soldering to link in to the number plate reverse light wiring down by the spare wheel near the tailgate.

Thumbs Up
