Just checking my admiral policy it says SDP but not for use to and from work so what's domestic then as ofc you need a car to get there and back also as I'm registered disabled it's classed as unemployed so your not entitled third party on another vehicle only applies if your working, absolutely nothing to do with it IMO and that is discrimination in my eyes, last year I paid a grand in full and this it's £91 a month and I'm six months in, I'm taking this further to the ombudsman! _____________________________________________________

SDP? Are you only insured 3rd party then and not fully comp? I'd have thought that any policy covers you for travelling back and forth between work, unless you are using it for work.
I think we are paying about £250 a year fully. Comp

My policy specifically covers me for "business use class 1", but not for what used to be called "commercial travelling" ie a travelling salesman.

I think in your case, you're a "commuter".

I usually get prices for SDP and SDP+C. The commuting can make a big difference to the price. I don't have it on my Porsche.

I specifically added commuting to mine on top of SDP, only to cover emergency trips in winter. It added quite a significant amount to my premium. 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

All our fleet has commute except my landy 90 which is only SDP and has been like that for many years. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

Paul, commuting always used to be included in SDP.

The separate "commuting" category is a fairly recent addition. The reason being that insurers have worked out that statistically you are MUCH more likely to have a claim if you commute at peak hours as this is high risk time to travel.......

Then commuting only allows you to travel to your place of work and come home again. Use of the vehicle for any business use means you need to add "Business Use" which is THEN split into a further 3 categories!

Business use - class 1
If you're using your car as part of your job, to drive to other sites as well as your usual place of work, this counts as Business use - class 1. It doesn't include commercial use (such as deliveries) or door-to-door selling.
Usually your spouse will also be covered for Business use - class 1, but no other named driver. Best to check when you get your quote.
Business use - class 2
This is much the same as class 1, but it generally covers you (the policyholder) and a named driver, in connection with your business. However, different underwriters have their own rules about what it covers, so again, check when you get a quote.
Business use - class 3
This is the one you need if you are racking up the miles - like salesmen who may also be carrying samples.

Some insurers haven't implemented it yet. Some probably never will. Admiral (who also own confused.com) are very much leading this....tweaks like this allow them to get to very competitive upfront pricing! 2006 4.2 SC

Mine (Aviva via the A-Plan site sponsor) excludes work related travel as well.

Social, Domestic and Pleaseure, Excluding travel to and from a place of employment or for business purposes, hiring, use for any purpose in connection to the Motor Trade, or use in any competition, trial, performance test, race or trial of speed, including off-road events whether between motor vehicles or otherwise, and irrespective of whether this takes place on any circuit or track, formed or otherwise, and regardless of any statutory authorization of any such event.
Excluding use of secure release of a vehicle, other than the vehicle identified above by its registration number, which has been seized by, or on behalf of, any government or public authority".

For me it is not that important because I will be exporting the car at some point and use it for commuting here  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
