Voice recognition not working

If I 'briefly' press the voice switch on my steering wheel, the dashboard display shows 'phone'. Confused

If I press and hold the voice switch on the wheel for a couple of seconds, I get 'listening' on the display, but any which command I give is either not heard, or I get 'command not recognised' in the display. Big Cry

However, comma, the 'phone (on bluetooth) works OK, and if i use the 'phone controls in my touch screen, I can succesfully store a 'phone number (using voice commands) - which seems to suggest the Mic etc is OK - any ideas please? Question 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Could this be connected to the volume of the voice audio?

When the nav is giving instructions, you can vary the volume while the voice is active.

Is it possible the voice command volume is right down and needs turned up?

Mike

Thanks Mike, have tried that but to no avail - Big Cry

I don't believe (but I'm not sure as only had the vehicle for a few weeks and this is the first time I have tried in earnest to use the voice recognition system) I should see 'phone' displayed in the message centre when I press the voice button on the steering wheel - I think it should say 'listening' - I wonder if something software wise has 'locked up'? Question

Would it be worth doing the good old battery disconnection and then shorting the leads out trick? Question

Anyone have any ideas please? Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

When you press and HOLD the VC button the system should beep at you, as well as show "listening" on the dash.

Then when you have spoken a command such as "Navigation Go Home", it will repeat your request.

Are you getting the beep?

Maybe the VC module is goosed, or is disconnected. Try the fuses first, then the connections to the box itself in case its a dry joint.

Now, someone please tell the OP where the VC module is! Discovery 4 HSE

I find a swift slap around her earhole sorts this problem out without too much hassle Whistle

You haven't tangled with my SWMBO - you'd be welcome to try slapping her round the earhole - much cheaper end for you than assisted suicide Rolling with laughter 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Quick question on VC, mine does not beep or work, everything else in the car seems to work (touch wood), wondering what is the correct fuse for it is?

Rear box number 10? “ Rear seat entertainment, Vehicle Information Communication System”

Or 11? “Telephone, Navigation, Message centre, Television, Radio, Headphones”

I don’t have rear entertainment so so could be number 10 as everything on 11 currently works, just wondering if it comes under ‘message centre…’.

Thanks in advance. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Yes the Sat-Nav and everything else electrical is ok as far as I can tell (touch wood again!).

I understand from the previous reply’s to this tread that there’s a control module, it’s really not very important that it works but would be nice if it did…! 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Nothing wrong with the fuse on inspection. Will get another and change anyway on the very off chance. The steering wheel button works as tapping calls the last number on my phone, holding does nothing as mentioned previously.

Guessing it’s the module, also guessing that’s tucked away somewhere and not easy to fix (e.g. something loose!)… 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Yes, my iPhone connects to the cars phone system via Bluetooth automatically, surprisingly quickly too.

Also I never get anything relating to the VC come up on the dash. 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.
