french mot

can you let me know more about the french MOT thing - particularly with a UK registered car. I've got a static caravan south of Bordeaux and have a Jeep I leave there most of the year. However, I've been trailering it backwards & forwards every winter for an MOT. Do you SORN it then pay french road tax ?

An L322 (or any 4X4) MOT is 68 euros either on French or UK plates (have both)

You can not SORN a french registered car, also there is no road tax in France, you only pay a fee when you buy the car. However our Autoroute have tolls as you know. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

LHD/RHD has never been an issue with CTs, simply set them up if you wish, but my LHD vehicles never had any problems with CT. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Sorry Alistair looks like the info I was told on headlights was wrong.
however FYI
The Contrôle Technique in France
The compulsory roadworthiness test for your car or other motor vehicle in France: why, when, where and how to get it done...

The contrôle technique is a compulsory test for roadworthiness (similar to the UK MOT) for all vehicles of more than 4 years of age. This includes passenger cars and transport vehicles with a gross weight which does not exceed 3,5 tons. The roadworthiness test is optional for motorcycles.

A collectable car, véhicule de collection is a car older than 30 years and must pass a contrôle technique every five years.
Taking the Roadworthiness Test

The first contrôle technique (CT) of a new vehicle should be done within the 6 month period before the car becomes a 4 year old. It must be done at a recognised technical centre.

A CT pass is valid for two years (in the case of private cars). Take the car for the next test before the two year period expires.

Foreign cars require a Certificate de Conformité to undergo a CT.

Commercial Vehicles must be tested for emission pollutants every year.

The test generally takes no more than an hour and once completed, the test centre places the CT certificate onto the registration document.

To find a local test centre: Click here and select the region from the map

If the vehicle passes the test, the centre provides a document, and a stamp (vignette) for the windscreen that marks, among other things, the date the next test is due.
If the vehicle fails the test

There is a two month period in which to repair the problems before the vehicle becomes un-roadworthy. Once fixed, the centre will test for that problem only. If the car is not returned to be retested within two months, a full test will need to be retaken.

The owner is fined if a vehicle is not roadworthy - the police can check this easily by looking at the stamp attached inside the windscreen.

Note: It is illegal to fit rear seats to a vehicle de societé (company car - delivery type) unless the work is done by a registered garage and with all new parts and authorised receipts are supplied by a main dealership.
Frequent reasons for failure:

worn tyre tread
lights not all working
emissions too high
shock absorbers faulty/worn
faulty/worn brakes
wheel alignment faulty
some aspects of damaged bodywork, for example if a door cannot open
some aspects that could impair safely, including the condition of the mirrors, windscreen and wipers

Payment is made to the centre. Prices may vary from centre to centre.

Note: There are additional tests for cars running on LPG.
Sale of a Used Car

A used car over four years old being sold privately must be sold with a CT certificate no more than six months old (two months if a re-test or contre-visite is required). The seller must arrange the vehicle inspection and give the valid CT certificate to the buyer as this is needed to register the vehicle in their name. Mine was a blue one! Smile

That's great info, one little thing, the certificate of conformity needs to be a French one. Factory delivered COC's are not accepted. The factory delivers a COC for 125£ normally, the French one is approx 350 euro. Had that experience twice now. The French red tape is even worse compared to other EU countries.
A classic car coc comes through the VSCC an other org. and costs 50€

Thumbs Up Thanks - by SORN, I meant the UK one - no point in paying UK road tax.

Do I get the COC from the manufacturer ? Any idea how modifications affect it - my Jeep is lifted with bigger wheels etc.

I have some LHD headlights that I put on when it's over there - they are just 6" round ones - generic & cheap

I'll look into it some more as I hadn't realised I could go this route with a UK car.

There will be, we have a bunch of Censored socialists ruling this country and they will start with a "vignet" in the last week of june after the county elections and just before the holidays. So most people are gone and there will be not to much unsatisfied people in the streets.
It means you'll have to buy a window sticker every year for a lot of money so these idiots can give more money to the neverworking, the local roads are a disaster everywhere. The toll roads are in private hands so well taken care off.

OOOHHHHH that would suck. I can imagine that it is right too. Hollande has not managed to turn the country around and needs money.

Aside from my later RRs which have smaller diesel motors, my cars all have big, thirsty (and therefore likely expensive) motors. I was always so happy about having the vignette gone. Crying or Very sad
All I had to worry about was swapping insurance.

I do sincerely hope that this will not come to pass.

Edit: seems maybe it is not real. https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=ctrl&ei=...etour+2014

Verydisco I got that from a former minister. When we talked about communication strategy for the regional elections, he told me that and I urged him to use that in his campaign. He said that it is under embargo and would make him liable....etc.
So ...I didn't vote for this bunch of thieves and incompetent idiots in Paris.

Oh and I forgot , in June we'll have to pay for a whole year (2014) and in January again for 2015.

I have seen this hoax post on google also, but coming from this source I can only hope it is not true. If you are member of the association for drivers in France you would know that there are allready more as a million signatures against this new tax. I have a few cars and really do hope it will fall through. If not I will register them all in the UK and pay roadtax there. I really hate these Censored socialists.
