air bag light.

Hi,

I've got a problem with my airbag light coming on.

Before I bought the car (privately) The air bag light was on and the previous owner took the car to a specialist who diagnosed a dry joint on the airbag module (in the center console??). I think they resoldered the joint to resolve it.

Anyway, last week, it came on, then the next time i drove the car it stayed off. i noticed it come on again when i accelerated hard, so it does seem like a faulty connector again.

Does anyone know how to get to the airbag module in the center console, so I can have a look and try to sort it?

Do not muck about with the airbag! It can cause serious injury if it goes off inadvertently. Take it to someone who knows how to deal with them! Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

i had an intermittent light on my td6 which was due to an occupancy sensor failing in my passenger seat..this failure was diagnosed by someone moving about in the seat and the light flickering.. ... - .- -.

This almost definately the connector on the air bag module. I just need to know how to get to the module to check the connector.

Is there a technical CD available on the net that the dealerships use? what's it called?

Do not mess with airbags - they contain explosive charges and unless you are trained in how to maintain them, you run the risk of SERIOUS injury if it was to inadvertently go off. Big Cry

I understand that maintenance personnel have some way of 'disarming' the explosive charge, but i don't know how it is done. I think this is one job best left to the 'professionals' Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Removing the negative terminal on the battery and leaving for 30 mins is a good way to disable the SRs system..

(my car 2002 vCool if you know someone with an RSW allcomms diagnostic. you can get an idea of what is calling the fault. I bought my car before it was an mot fail on the SRS airbag. using said cable, it was coming up with the battery connector blow off sensor. however after changing it, it was same. I then removed centre console to reveal the airbag main brain. (its possible to lift the rear just high enough, but I would recommend removing it) the airbag box is about 4 inches square and about 1 inch thick. belive it holds faults, and can be troublesome to reset. (for crash analysis by insurance etc)
I bought a secondhand one from a dismantler, with 'no known faults' and it plugged in, and worked fine and said aibag light went off. note you must read up on disarming first. ie key out, wait 20 mins and disconnect battery. I must admit I was laying on the seat when putting key in for first time!

replaced the sensor, cost was around £90 at the time...the seat trim comes off and the sensor is revealed.. ... - .- -.

my son did it..the seat comes out very easily, then the clips ,which are under tension come off and the seat cover is pulled back...the fiddlelist bit was getting the clips off. ... - .- -.

I forgot to reply to this, but it was my battery that was causing the issue - thought i'd update incase that someone else had the same issue Cool. Replaced the battery and everything is fine.

The system has a capacitor to fire it in the event of a loss of battery power, however disconnecting the battery, or removing the fuse and letting the capacitor discharge for 30 min disables it.

But yes it is always a good idea to treat these things with caution.
