2003 Vogue Modifications/Upgrades Advice please.

Hello All,
First time RR Vogue owner and new to the site.

I have bought a 2003 Vogue, fitted with the non touch screen Sat Nav/TV screen. I have scoured the forums for help on how to fit a reversing camera to the system but it just leaves me even more confused as to what I need and where/how to wire it.

Can anyone who has done this please tell me what they bought and how they wired the system up.

Also, I am guessing that the TV tuner fitted only receives the old analogue signal. Has anyone fitted a digital receiver? what system did you buy and how did you fit it?

I am sure that all the answers are buried within the forum but i am finding it difficult to extract the information I need.

Sorry if I am being thick.

This thread "may" be a good place to start to help understand the wiring

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic8786.html

For reversing camera, there is nowhere to install it, you will have to find a location - drill hole, fixing below bumper, number plate light etc. Wiring to TV module not too bad, then connecting up the gear lever to the grounding wire (so cam comes on when you go into reverse). You may need a link cable in order to do all this.

You can get a hybrid receiver for @ £300 on ebay (supposedly straight swap) or you can get Baris (on forum - TV/Radio module guru and fixer) to convert your existing, or there are other third party add ons for this .

i have just undertaken the exact same job

very easy if following the instructions on said previous thread.

Confused although have to admit it is not working 100% and is "pulsing on and off in reverse" as if it is either losing power to camera or losing signal to change to Camera input on Front display - a relay problem ??? '54 Adriatic Blue Vogue

Thanks for that fellas. More confused than ever now with all the talk of PC, PS1, iBus and all the other terms used in there.

Might just give this a miss. Only wanted a camera to help with caravan hook-up. I have this on my Sorento and it works a treat.

You could always do the two phone webcam thing, useful for occasional use.

In simple terms, one smartphone with suction mount fitted to rear of car, one smartphone in cradle up front by driver.

Install suitable software depending on your phone type for transmitting camera capture at rear to camera viewer at front.

It is on here somewhere....

Job done .

Thanks for that.

I think I will just go back to the old and trusted method. Let the wife stand in the rain and give me dodgy directions.

this is the type of reversing cam i fitted to the non touch screen nav screen(pal not NSTC as this one)
used the diagrams below for my preferred instillation
you can buy the fly leads from BMW to fit in the tv modual plugs (think you may need 5 if i remember correctly)
about £1.50 each

fitted my cam by the side of the number plate light so it gives a perfect view of the tow ball to assist hooking up the trailer
ill post some more picks tomorrow
lots of posts on the BMW forums about reversing cams

Did the TV upgrade - bought a hybrid unit from a BMW X5 - take out the old and plug in the new one and job done (mind you first one I was sent was faulty and came from latvia, but true to his word seller sent me a replacement as promised that has been fine). Other upgrade I did was replaced the CD based sat nav for the newer DVD version - again plug and play all done in 2 mins, still not the best but so much better than the CD based one.

Nice work and instructions ironhorse Bow down Bow down Bow down

Did you enjoy working the video cable from the number plate area back to the tv module as much as I did? Smile .

I wish the proper camera was there so you could actually see the back of the FF. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
