I filled up with BP Ultimate diesel at the start of the week and saw an immediate improvement of around 2 - 3 mpg and more refinement. After reading online discussions I tried Shell Fuelsave today and it immediately went back to how it was before, less mpg and louder.

BP Ultimate is around 11p a litre more but I think the gains are worth it.

Would it not have been fairer to compare the BP Ultimate fuel you have used with the Shell V-Power equivalent rather than the standard Shell Fuel Save product?

Every time i have got my landrover serviced the Indie I use always adds fuel additive as he reckons this gives you the same mpg as using a higher octane diesel. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

I went to get V Power diesel but for whatever reason they only had V Power unleaded. I read online somewhere that Shell fuelsave has the same centance value as BP Ultimate and V Power a higher one so I hoped fuelsave would be a good compromise since its only 2p more then Tesco where I live.

No V Power means BP ultimate is the one I think I will use, with some Millers additive for good measure

I tried a full tank of shell v power deisel a month ago and it made very little difference if any. It was something like 8-9p more a litre as well so wont be giving it another chance. I will continue with normal shell which is what I tend to use. FFRR TD6 HSE

I remapped by TDV8 last weekend with the Superchips Bluefin option and it feels much livelier accelerating, more S/C petrol like and lighter on its feet but yet again im still struggling with fuel economy.

From my previous posts on here it was seen that my mpg figures were down a bit so i thought the Bluefin would help. I reset on Monday, have done the same journeys to and from work this week and honestly drove the same way but only saw an improvement of 0.7mpg, from 24.7 to 25.4 and its dropping still so i expect it back to a lowly 24 ish by the end of the weekend. My weekly commute is motorway to work, country lane home and a bit of in town but not driving hard at any time.

I spoke to Superchips and they said TDV8 owners usually see 4 mpg from their map and have asked me to give it another week then report back but my question here is, why am i struggling to see any decent figures from my TDV8?. I run it on BP Ultimate diesel all the time and drive carefully but nothing above 25 at the moment. With the remap and careful driving i should be seeing near 29 - 30 shouldnt I ?

When was it last serviced?
Are the tyre pressures all correct?
Is it tracking right?

Have you tried adjusting your driving style maybe?, IE reading the road further ahead for junctions and coasting that little bit more in gear?

Last serviced in Feb, 5k miles ago. Tracking all ok and I adjust my tyre pressures every 2 weeks as I have 22" wheels so don't want tyre wear.

I'd say I'm pretty good when it comes to smooth driving style, I'm not hard on the brakes hard on the gas so assume that's not the cause?

The wheels are Overfinch style so are probably heavier than OEM 20" for example, would that extra weight be a factor? Tyres are 285 35 22 so the right size for the FFRR.

well with the bigger wheels and tyres you are putting a lot more tread on the road which is causing extra drag.

I always thought the 275 width was standard for the RRS and not the FFRR

Looking at some of the posts i cant understand the poor fuel consumption from some members, i have had my TDV8 for 4 months and have averaged 26.7 mpg overall however i do have a light right foot. i recently filled up at Tesco so it will be interested to see if ecomomy drops of. I am going to get my car remapped by Evolution Chips in a few weeks time and i have been told that i should get 3 mpg and a much better power delivery. The power delivery at the moment is lovely and smooth, i cant imagine it being better we shall see
