4.2 SC Exhaust Manifold Bolts

Anyone tried to tighten these? I have what I think is a leak at the manifold....I've been over the entire rest of the exhaust with a fine toothed comb and can't find any other leakes or cracks but I'm getting a ticking that I can only hear with the window open and only under heavy load/acceleration. Sounds like a slight manifold leak and I figured I'd try to just put a wrench on the bolts. I'm also getting a very intermittent "catalyst efficiency" CEL which could also be cased by this.

Anyone know if I'll be able to reach all of them without dismantling too much? Service Manual shows a fair bit of work to actually replace the manifolds/gaskets but doesn't hint at how hard it is to hit just the bolts. Also, are these likely to snap on me or are they generally pretty stout pieces of hardware?

Thanks,

-John

The dealer snapped mine when removing the exhaust to fit a new rear diff.

Caution is advised!

Good luck Thumbs Up

I know this is an old post but was wondering if you ever sorted this problem. I have a rattle/ticking under acceleration. Would like to tighten my manifold bolts - manual says 10Nm (7 lbs. ft.). Concerned about snapping bolts.

Thanks
