And I would NOT recommend anyone doing that to their car.

Having driven for long periods at 140mph (not in the UK) I can confirm that the 2006 and 2010 DO NOT lower at 100mph+ - or if they do there is no indication of this on the 4x4 display (as shown in the handbook!). Land Rover Addict

I’d be very interested to see some info on the “Extended Mode” that has been mentioned, especially for the 2002-2005 MY. I know this was a feature on the P38, there was mention of it in the manual as well as the workshop manual. However there is no mention of this in the L322’s WSM or handbook. As the EAS system is from BMW I presumed this is why this feature is missing.

I would be happy to be proved wrong as I think it was a fantastic feature of the old system, basically it meant that if you went too far and got grounded, you could always back out, or if you were brave, continue with those extra few mm.

2010's certainly have extended mode, it is documented in the handbook - although the instructions to *manually* invoke it do not work. Land Rover Addict

After BMW Cut LR free the tech changed a massive amount though. Personally I love the direction they have been taking over the last 5 years, leaps ahead of BMW - again. Give it another 10 years and BMW will buy them again to catch up.

You are wrong and right in the same sentence...... Shocked

They DO drop a bit at 100mph and they come back up to 'normal height' again if the speed drops below about 80-90mph. However, there is no indication on the display - principally because the drop is 'normal' for these speeds but isn't classed as 'access height'.

I can't speak for the MY10, but FWIW the FFRR TDV8 works exactly the same way as the Disco3 in terms of:
  • Access Height
  • Normal (High Speed) Height
  • Normal Height
  • Off Road Height
  • Extended Mode
  • Super Dooper Extendy Height Mode

Items shown in bold are selectable by the driver. The others are not. Rolling Eyes

To get to Super Dooper Extendy Height you must first 'ground' the car, or fool it into thinking it is grounded (eg. using a trolley jack). The car goes automatically from Off-Road to Extended Mode. The display shows an obstacle and asks you to re-set the height once you are clear. At this point, put your foot on the brake, keep the brake on and press & hold the raise button for five seconds. Hey presto! Razz

A couple of points to note about being this high though...... The car will drop back to Off Road if you go above about 10-15mph at Super Dooper Height. More importantly, don't try to get out of the car without looking as you will end up falling on your face. There is honestly enough room beneath the car to roll under it from one side to the other and work on the exhaust with spanners in the process! The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

2 questions

Do you know if the super extended height work on a TD6 in the same way?

And where would you place the jack to think it was grounded? and would you possibly put a switch in place?

Cheers

The 2006MY has an entry in the handbook about the high speed suspension drop of 20mm. The 2010Y handbook makes no mention at all of this function - so I can only assume it has been removed and the suspension tweaked.

Just checked them out on the http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com site as I didn't think I was going mad Thumbs Up Land Rover Addict

I'm afraid I'm not the man to answer your questions. Whistle

I've never suffered had the pleasure of a TD6 so I just don't know. Also, I tend to take the car off tarmac to play with it so I just ground the thing to make it work the way I want it to. Mr. Green

I'm led to believe however that raising (or attempting to raise) a wheel with the engine running will send the car rushing into extended mode. Whistle

Switch??? Confused If you mean fitting a switch to make it do this then I wouldn't go there myself. Neutral The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

I'd like the car to drop a little at a speed lower than 100mph. I don't often drive that fast Whistle but would like the benefit of a lower centre of gravity at standard UK motorway speeds.

I wonder if there's a tweak to tell the facelift (06-09) model to drop its height a little sooner? Researching my first Range Rover purchase
