Is there anything else I should ask the mechanic to do whilst he is fitting discs and pads allround ??

Eg should they put new brake fluid in ?

I had mine done recently & also decided to get the rear callipers replaced as there seem to be quite a few reports of them starting to bind. My handbrake shoes were also low, so had those done too

I think brake fluid is meant to be changed every 3 years E4GUY... I did initially think it was every 2 years until surfing "brake fluid" on the forum search engine and most references I found were for every 3 years.

If you don't know or your SH doesn't show it done in the past 2 or 3 years then maybe now's the time!

Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

Arrived yesterday . Fitted today

Indy charged £198 labour

Brake fluid changed jan 12, he tested it for water, and said it was ok

So shade under £500 for Brembo's discs and pads all corners. Interested to know what a main stealer would have charged Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Hi Steve/ AF (or anyone who has used this AF function in the know please),

From AF, I'm hoping to buy a rear Brembo disc/ pad set for the 4.2 but I'm also thinking about changing the rear calipers at the same time too.

On checking the AF website just, I see that when looking up the Price of new TRW rear calipers, there is a dropdown that says Exchange Unit... Refundable on return (+£54)''

http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/c-bhu341e...1622-p.asp

Sorry for being thick, does this mean:

A. If I order one brand new rear TRW caliper from AF, then after the new one arrives and is fitted, if I then post to AF, the old one that has just been taken off, AF will credit me back £54?

B. If my thinking at A is correct, how long would I have to return the old caliper to AF please?

If I've got the above correct, I'll order all today as that's a cracking all round price and deal.

Embarassed

Thumbs Up

Despite the fact that those TRW calipers are new units they surcharge us to get the old ones back into the system, so yes the price has added to it £54 which you get back when we receive the old units (no time limit)

We do have reconditioned Remey ones in stock for less as well, they are good value. Paul Redding

Thanks Steve, my understanding is that the TRW ones you are selling are identical replacements for the calipers the 4.2 was wearing when it left the factory and if so, I'd probably stick with them?

Thanks again.

Can I just get some clarification on the rear caliper for a MY08 TDV8, as there seems to be 2 types, TRW and another brand, which is half the price, but look the same.
I seem to recall that when I had my SC, I was originally supplied with the wrong one. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

For yours the choice is

New units = BHU340E & BHU341E
Reconditioned units = DC784734 & DC784735

Edit: Don't be put off by the reconditioned ones - sold over 50 in last 2 years, no returns yet and we give the same 2 year warranty. Paul Redding

Rear TRW calipers, Brembo discs and pads all fitted today. Mechanic did query in particular why I was fitting new rear calipers until I explained the forum consensus, the overall deal and the negligible cost of adding calipers as part and parcel of the AF order, in response to which he concluded 'fair enough'.

In fact he did say there was nothing wrong with the existing calipers, discs or pads but rather I dictate the pace and know exactly what does and does not need to be done, as opposed to having it sprung on me as "work required" when the car is 'in for some other work'.

All good and a pair of used calipers to return to AF next week.

Thanks Advanced Factors.

Thumbs Up
