'SERVICE REQUIRED' ??

Hi
Have a March 2014 Vogue V8
The car has done 6900 miles.
I was just packing the car in readiness for our departure on holiday to Spain this Wednesday.
I turned on the ignition and the message came up 'service required in 1900 miles' !!
Is this correct? I was under the impression that the first service would be required at around 15000 miles or so....
I'm going to be doing more than 1900 miles on the Spanish trip. and don't really know what to do now, as there is no way our dealer will be able to service it in the next 2 days!!
Any advice gratefully received...

Your car probably needs an oil change due to oil dilution caused by abortive DPF recycling taking place several times.

Maybe Stratstone or Colliers would help if you are in a real hurry.

The car probably doesn't need a full service. Just new oil.

The same happened to me.

If you read the handbook, I believe services should be annually regardless on Land Rover products. They are not Condition Based Service vehicles a la BMW as far as I'm aware. There are guidelines as to when it can be carried out but a couple of weeks either side won't make any difference don't worry.

PS: Just checked the service record. All Range Rover vehicles should be serviced annually regardless of mileage.

Completely missed that sorry! It's obviously detected something that isn't quite right.

I read your OP perhaps as being more wary of falling foul of and leaving yourself exposed to later suggestions of invalidating the warranty.

It seems less likely that whatever the reason for the warning light that the car will self destruct if not serviced within 1900 miles.

As mentioned I would ring the dealership/ LR warranty and hopefully get that clarity and peace of mind that it can be addressed before you leave or otherwise 'can wait until you return' ... And then I'd send them an email asking them to reply by return, words to the effect that 'we have been notified... and can confirm that this will not be deemed to invalidate your warranty."

Thumbs Up

Any chance of just dropping it off at a Spanish JLR dealer in some town while you're doing a touristy shop for the day or a museum prowl?

Well I took the car to Stafford Landrover and they told me the service indicator had probably not been set up correctly during the PDI, so they have simply reset it for me.

I did consider the option of having the car serviced in Spain, as there is a LR dealership in our town. What worried me was that we don't get service books these days, and I have been told that any work/services are recorded online now rather than getting a stamp in a service book.

Apparently this only happens when the car is serviced by a UK dealership, so any work carried out in mainland Europe would not appear in the cars online history.

A pity really. I remember when I was younger back in 1994 when I purchased a new M3 and immediately drove to Germany in it. I had the first service done at 1100 miles by a BMW dealer in Munich and was always really proud of my Munich service stamp! Sad really! 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

Exactly the same happened to me. Having now rejected it, I wonder if the same will happen on the replacement?

I had the same problem and this is why:

There is a known fault.

The secondary turbocharger was leaking oil into the exhaust and this was coating the diesel particulate filter with a film, causing excessive regenerations.

The secondary turbocharger doesn't have an oil return which can carry a sufficient oil flow. Back pressure causes the oil to leak into the exhaust.

The issue is resolved by creating a second oil return path.

The technical bulletin has reference LTB00524v5 4.4 TDV8 Exhaust Smoke.

Affected vehicles have VIN ranges DA000011-EA144253, model years 2013-2014.

I think it's 12 months or 16,000 miles whichever is the sooner (Topix)

@keithg yes, we know the service interval should be 16,000 miles.

The problem is that the service indicator came on at ca. 7,000 miles.

And the reason in my case was a design fault in the car.
