Rear dash camera fitment

After I fitted the front camera with great success ( http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic23389.html )and inspired by cliffy's post (http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic24647.html?highlight=rear+camera) I wanted to fit a rear back up camera but didn't want it just working when in reverse but when moving forward and wanted a camera that recorded, I found this little camera with the AV cable built in to the wiring loom, its the same size as the front 0801 model but with no screen on the camera and cheaper.

Needed to buy the tv loom
link for the tv loom http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AV-Video-Audio-I...35cc0d02cc

link for the camera http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161078047884?ru=...26_rdc%3D1

Camera spec

Model number - NT-168
lens angle - 140 deg
video format - AVI 1280x720P resolution
frame rate - 30 F/S
micro sd card - 2G - 32G high speed card class 4 and above

So as per my front camera I needed to find another ignition live in the front fuse box, there is NO ingnition live at the rear fuse box, its all positive live, but this was handy for the camera to have the memory stored.
So wiring up the inside the A pillar again and under the head lining, removing door seals, grab handles and the 2 dog guard clips and feed through, missing the air bags, and down the D pillar to where the sat nav area in the rear near side.

Using fuse 42 the vanity mirror to piggy off

No ignition live but useful for the camera memory, wire cable fed through the spare wheel well and fused.

Next was to make a bracket as fitting the camera to the tail gate was an issue ( see the end Whistle )
A piece of 2mm alli strip, shaped and bent to fit snugly

Next take the centre console off, the switch to fit.
Watching the youtube video you don't need to take the hand brake handle off or remove the selector grip off either, why make work for yourself, you only need enough room to feed wires in so didn't see the point.

And look, my FF worth £2.55 more! previous owner lost it Laughing

Next was to find a good place for the switch, thinking where to fit, just under the dsp switch on the centre dash using a similar switch or in the coin tray infront of gear selector, or even near the high/low and HDC switches neither where ideal, as involving to take more to bits and the coin tray way would look wrong, so the switch went here.....

the simple wiring

And the finished camera

the camera is both NTCS and PALL but you need to change the setting on the head unit to NTCS for it to work correctly.
As I didn't need the camera on for all reversing this set up is great for me and you can use it in forward motion for your passengers watching the idiot ( you know the type) behind you!
Picture doesn't show up very well as it the grey day here and I only have a HTC phone camera.

What issue, well after I fitted the camera to the tail gate and shut it the camera recorded everything backwards, numbers where like looking in the mirror and sd card issues, so it went back and got another one! There was a fault with the camera first of Big Cry

SD card was in the camera on both pictures ^ v

the screen was rolling up the every few seconds, card was already formatted and both head unit and camera on NTCS

Edited links for camera, av cable adaptor and wiring diagram If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Interesting write up. Thumbs Up
You could have made life a bit easier by taking a fused supply from the rear fuse board and switching it by a relay from the ignition controlled feed in the rear corner. Would have saved running an ignition controlled feed from the front fuse board.

Do you have a link for the camera? Might have a go at this. Thumbs Up

Not wanting to start a new thread on cameras, today I have fitted a rear view camera to the horsebox trailer. So far it looks good on the screen in the RR.
All I did was to tap off the positive and negative supply and using a conector above the trailer hitch for ease of disconnectting.

Pictures help though Wink

If you want to put an ignition live in the boot there should be one in the trailer connector.

you can always 'create' an ignition live from anywhere by using a voltage sensing relay from a generic trailer electrics kit. (It detects when the engine is running from the voltage)

Rear mount camera

Hello, thanks for the good write-up, I have done the same and it works well. Here is a question, can you get the radio to work while the screen is showing the idiot behind? The co-pilot wants music while she reports on what is going on behind.

Help needed.

Well I thought all was working well but that was parked in the garage Confused When I went to reverse out this morning the rear view disappeared and the message " for your own safety the driver can,t watch TV whilst driving" or words to that effect. The screen only shows the rear view when I am in Park, in reverse or drive nothing just the nanny message, Shocked What have I done wrong? Please advise
