SC leaking oil - Ladder Frame... Or something

From the outset, it would be nice to have confirmation as to what the aluminium?/ silver box with the X pattern (pictured) is officially called please?

Anyway, whilst underneath the car today I noticed wet patches on one of the bolted on plastic under trays underneath the engine bay.

I removed the under tray and this is what the oil catching side looked like (like it's been hiding a leak for a while is what it looked like!). The plastic lugs of the tray face towards the back of the car and the straighter edged part points towards the front of the car when fitted:

I then got right underneath the car and managed to take these pictures which show fresh oil deposited on or leaking from the components in question. I don't know the names of the components.

Can anyone please enlighten me as to the component parts and what might be going on please?

Thanks

Thanks RRBlue, will check.

My first thought went towards the following leaks that were supposedly dealt with in the past 12 months:
• Oil Leak - Engine - visible via discharge out of under tray holes. Replaced the front offside driveshaft seal. Later discovered was also a minor oil leak via an oil breather hose which was also replaced.

• Oil Leak - Front diff - diff was weeping/ had a teardrop type leak. Replaced the full front diff and the pinion seal.

Would just like to know what the components covered in oil and as pictured are Stan.

That would be a good starting point.

Thumbs Up

Have seen the sump/crankcase leak on the 4.2 before.

Most of the time, it tends to need the bolts tightened up a little. Whether they are not tight enough from.the factory, or they work loose over time, who knows. But it's free to try, and has cured quite a few oil leaks for me Thumbs Up

Would be strange if the seals had gone already. Take it back get them to sort it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Reduced engine power in April resulted in the SC water pump and crankcase breather being replaced.

Surely linked to that work and/ or the other work that I've listed as having been done.

What a pain!

Car in at garage today. Call late afternoon reporting that they wiped down the saturated components and sourced the leak to a bolt that hadn't been fully tightened on the Front Diff during recent works.

No harm done, all sorted and car ready for collection first thing tomorrow.

Knew deep down that it was going to be connected to recent repairs but always some uncertain moments when a diagnosis is awaited and you wonder if you're going to get that sinking feeling when updated Thud

Mrs pld doesn't even know the car is away... Managed to tuck the courtesy car up in our garage without her noticing. Not worth the hassle! Laughing

Nice result, mine is in tomorrow, to see if they can finally sort out the transfer box leak!

I've even bought the part I reckon is leaking for them, just to make sure that they change the right thing! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ
