Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black
Servotronic Valve / Hydraulic Transducer

Morning All,

I've just picked up a replacement Servotronic Valve from the dealer and am going to take on the fitting of it this weeked. I've had a look through 'Rave' and can only find the layout diagram under the system decription section but nothing in the actual workshop manual.

Any hints or tips on the fitting?

take off the off side front wheel and its there tucked behind the plastic...undo the two long screws, take old unit off and replace the little filter, put new on and then check your steering fluid ..

Grr. Think I may be blind Sad

Have the drivers side front wheel off and arch liners out and can't see any sign of this servotronic valve.

Am I missing it?

Doh!! See it now, behind the A frame.

Can't seem to get the little mesh filter to stay in now. Should maybe have just paid the garage to do it

re the mesh filter use a same size bolt end to push it square in..

HELP !!

Hi guys

Sorry - I only seem to post when i've made a mess of something!! Embarassed

I've had intermittent heavy steering at low speeds for a while - it's been happening more often so i decided to try replacing the servotronic valve.

Unfortunately the lower bolt was seized and in trying to get it off - i shredded the torx bolt. This was when i should have stopped and gone to the garage. But i'm stupidly stubborn, so i drilled the head of the bolt off and took the old valve off thinking i'd surely get the other bolt off if i could grab it with some pliers.

Obviously all the PAS fluid drained out (into the basin i'd remembered to put underneath).

Problem is - i can't get the b Censored bolt off!! I can't get a good enough grip of it and can't get good leverage due to access. Big Cry

Now i don't think i can drive it to my mechanic as no PAS fluid so the steering's really heavy and i think it'll stuff up my pump if i drive with no fluid!!

I suppose i could try to bolt the old valve on with just one bolt and fill up again with fluid?? Not sure if that'll be tight enough to keep the fluid in under pressure though?

Any ideas about how to get the bolt off??

Should i get the cheapest fluid from halfords and try bolting the old one on to get to the mechanic??

Don't be tempted to fill it with cheap fluid or you could run into more expensive problems

If you have so so access and at least 1/2 inch of bolt to grab, buy a stud remover that fits on your socket set.

This gets a huge amount of torque grip, apply via heat gun a little heat on the alloy housing to expand it slightly, too much will just grip the bolt harder.

Then give it some, failing that , your removing the rack!!!!! Current vehicles

Thanks for the suggestions.

Put the old one back on meantime and topped up with halfords "advanced power steering fluid (pink). Seem s to be fine meantime, and will not be traveling far afield.

Been to my mechanic - he's going to take it in next week and try to free it - if not he thinks he might be able to drill it out and re cut the thread.

I've got the same problem - I need to replace the valve, but both bolts are completely seized. The Torx heads are rusted so that a torx fiting wont grip, and lots of GT85 etc isn't helping. the access problem doesn't help either. I guess I'll have to get a professional to do it, just when I thought I could get away with a quick DIY swap. Mad Big Cry
