TPMS

Hi,

Replacing 2 of my tyres is it necessary to renew the TPMS valves also ?

And if so what type do I get and where is the best place to buy them?

Thanks

Depends on how old ?

Most certainly replace the core

I always replace with Genuine

Also make sure the tyre agent is fully aware that TPMS is fitted it requires a slightly different method to minimise damage to the sensor

Thanks,

Anyone know if I take them in for the tyres to be fitted in Kwik fit etc they will have the TPM valves already there or do you need to take your own in ?

They wont have new TPMS's. You will have to source and supply. You are then best calling to ask if they will fit them before booking in as they may not.

Not 100%, but think they have to be coded in to the car so it may be worth just getting it done as a whole job at an Indie.

Others will correct me if i'm wrong.

Personally, I had all mine removed and standard valves fitted, then turned the TPMS off using the IID tool. I think they are a liability IMHO.

Thanks Paul,

I don't seem to be able to find an indie around my area down Near Canterbury in Kent sure there must be one about somewhere,

So kwikfit etc would/could just fit normal valves at my request then yes ?

Would have thought so, but just ask before booking in.....

Then you have to turn TPMS off, otherwise you'll have a warning indicated.

I replaced my TMPS valves last year

You will need to source replacement TMPS valves before going to get new tyres - they certainly won't stock them

About £50 each from a LR dealer or £50 for a set of four on eBay - make sure they come with the nuts, these are not re-usable from the old valves

The new TMPS valves will recode themselves to the car within about 10 mins of driving

If you fit a new TMPS in the spare, you either need it coded to the car using diagnostics or put the spare on and drive for 10 mins

Hope that helps - I am considering getting mine turned off next time I get my car serviced as the system only works about 60% of the time Censored (note a LR dealer will not do this, you need an Indy - apparently they won't do it for safety reasons even though LR sold RR's without TMPS Whistle ) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Thanks Gents,

Anyone have a link to the correct ones with nuts etc required from eBay or similar

I've looked and there are quite a few different ones and I haven't a clue tbh

Thinking if I'm changing tyres I may as well change these whilst I'm at it

Then your on your own

Places like tyrebay direct sell kits but its really unchartered territory at present

Non gen replacements will in-time become common place but i feel just a little to early

Theres plenty of aftermarket full kits but oem mimic ones are not that easy to come by

TPMS light lit up but extinguished after driving 6 miles down the road Very Happy
