I always take my camera with me when I'm working away, but for some reason (possibly senile dementia) I forgot on this day. The annoying thing is I was in a place I had never been before, so I apologise in advance for the picture quality as these were taken on my phone.

This is the village of Easdale on the Isle of Seil near Oban. Easdale was once the centre of the British Slate industry which employed over 500 workers in 7 quarries, some of which were 300 feet below sea level. Today it is a peaceful place and when the sun shines it is very pretty. It's certainly worth a couple of hours out of your day if you are in the Oban area. The island in the background is the Isle of Mull

That's where they filmed Ring of Bright Water.

I didn't go to see it when I was in Oban, but I will next time.

Who knows. Was there from 2000 to 2003.

I used to do relief skipper on Gemini out of Crinan Harbour (wildlife tours and water taxi). Did also once do a week for Colin Johnson out of Ardfern on Sea Leopard.

When did you leave? John
