That time of year again

My MOT was due today and I am usually ahead of the game and make plans to have it done a month early. This year however I have been rather negligent and waited until the eleventh hour. So I arrived at the MOT station this morning and have my usual chat with the boss and the mechanics, then one of the mechanics mentions that Chris the MOT tester is off today and I will have a nice long list of advisories to work my way through as todays tester likes to note every single advisory he finds...B0LL0CKS, that's all I need, I thought to myself. The tester in question has been there for 3 or 4 years and I've had a couple of cars tested by him and he always manages to write something in the advisory box, for example my wife's Mini a couple of years ago and the tyres were at 2mm, but he just had to note it... Why I don't know as the legal limit is 1.6mm

Just under an hour later he hands me the pass certificate and I look...not a single advisory, and that doesn't happen often with this guy...

Lucky bastid, mine's due August, so far i need the dash pixels done as you can't read the 1st digit of the mileage, nearside headlight wiper doesn't move, suspect that's a new motor, pretty sure something else will break between now & then Very Happy

I may be able to help out with a wiper motor.
My nearside headlight has had a whack in the past and the casing is cracked but the glass is new so I've been looking for a replacement and won THIS the other day, just waiting for it to arrive.
As it comes with a wiper fitted then I'm going to have a spare so I'm sure we can come to an arrangement.

Just PM me if your interested. Wink

I've just checked back my MOT history and I certainly know where I won't be going for an MOT

2006...No Advisory Notice issued

2007...Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate

Both rear brakes Rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.7a)

Parking brake efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.1b) **DANGEROUS**

2008...Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate

Offside Front suspension has excessive play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a)

Nearside Headlamp aim too low and too far to the right. (1.Cool

Advisory Notice issued

Rear brake pipes corroded

2009...Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate

Both front to back Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Nearside Headlamp aim too high (1.Cool

Advisory Notice issued

Offside Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated (2.5.C.1a)

2010...No Advisory Notice issued This was done a few months before I bought the FFRR and was a completely different garage to where it usually was tested...Makes you think that something dodgy was going on as every front suspension joint was goosed when I bought the vehicle

2011...Advisory Notice issued

Nearside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Offside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

2012...Advisory Notice issued

Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Nearside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Corrosion on both front brake pipes

2013...No Advisory Notice issued

The only mention was a bracket clip at the rear that holds the flexi brake pipe onto the metal, pipe the clip was corroded, but the tester put a cable tie on it and that was it sorted Whistle

Oddly enough last year I had an advisory for the near side front CV boot, deteriorated but preventing the ingress of dirt...Darned clever these FFRRs, it seems to have healed itself as the tester couldn't find anything wrong with it Laughing Laughing

Yeah, funny that. That's happened to me before. I got my MOT for £9.99 along the road, so I think they were going hell for leather to find something wrong. If a bit of surface rust was all they could find, I'm a happy man! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
