Hyper-miling?

Land rovers in general and Range Rovers in particular are not renowned as economy cars however mine is proving to be consistently more economical than my TDv8 engined RRS. In local driving with no commuting in the RRS I would average 26/27mpg - mainly fast A roads, on the same runs in the FullFat I'm getting 28/29, however I have just made a trip from home to Ardfern in Argyll (94 miles by the shortest A roads route via Balloch/inveraray/Lochgilphead to Ardfern and have averaged 32.2mpg on the Automatic trip, for the run back and 31.8mpg on the way there. northbound speed was higher than homeward because on the way back I was stuck in a convoy of log carrying wagons and couldn't overtake anywhere between Inveraray and Balloch so sat back at 50mph along with about 30 other cars and vans. So I'm very pleased with the fuel consumption when the car is driven sympathetically and with a light foot on the gas.I realise that if I did these figures scientifically rather than using the LR trips I probably would be just below 30mpg but whichever figure you take it's pretty good for such a big beasty! BTW Axle's car was outside his house...... Does it count as a Spot? Whistle 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Rolling with laughter Didn't want to disturb the gentle rattle of halyards on aluminium masts! The guy I sail with kept his boat on one of the moorings in the marina until last weekend when, because the weather was so nice, he decided to bring it back to the Clyde a week early - otherwise you would have had my car sitting in the marina carpark - instead you got his Focus............... I don't get how I can only get 24.5mpg and I am not a hard driver all the time, I know how to get the best from most engines but I doubt I will ever see above 26 even on a run. Discovery 4 HSE

One thing I have found with the FullFat is that the cruise control is nowhere near as good at keeping the speed in check as the cruise on the RRS - on one long downhill that I took the RRS over many times on the route I did today the cruise would hold the speed rock steady, the system in the FFRR allowed the car to carry away to well above the set speed - the new car's cruise is also very vicious with the power application when you click resume, often forcing the gearbox to drop two gears unecessarily. It's not as progressive as the adaptive system on the RRS. I use cruise a lot, in fact whenever I can. I thought also that the 2010MY version of the TDv8 has a different tune and a longer 6th gear compared to pre-2010's Adam

Next time I take it out I'll photo it in instantaneous consumption...................... I've seen 3mpg on that but it's also good when it goes 25/45/55/70/99.99mpg when you go down a slope! Aircon was on today, I never switch it off, if you have it use it, anyway 17c is a baking hot day up here so I needed it! 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Considering I got an overall of 24.9 in my 5.0 litre SC V8 ....... what are you guys doing in your diesels Laughing

A/C on or off - makes NO difference when you are pumping 500+ bhp Wink In fact makes no odds on any engine over 200bhp tbh Wink Land Rover Addict

Well I thought I'd add my 2p.
Trip 1 which I reset when I got the car shows 29.6 average MPG over about 3500 miles. THis is mixed motorway, town and towing.

Trip 2 which I reset each trip varies. I get between 20 and 24 when towing the tintent - depends if it's motorway or A roads really.
Normal everyday running about gives about 28.
Normal motorway driving usually gives about 33 and the best ever achieved was on a 200 mile motorway run late one night. Right up behind a wagon for the best part as I was going to be early anyway so I slipstreamed him as much as poss at about 58mph. Trip average was 39.4 - disappointing really, I was desperately trying to break the 40 mark. Big Cry

But then SWMBO says I drive like a Grandad anyway. Full to Full manual check of MPG shows computer is about 3% optimistic. Lots better than the old V8 D3 which was almost 20% out !!

Litres / 4.54 gives imperial gallons
Miles travelled / gallons used gives MPG.

On a FFRR a large fill up would be 90 - 100 litres or about 19-22 Gallons.

300KM = 185 Miles approx.
Divide by about 20 gallons would be , ooooh, 9.5 mpg or thereabouts.

Strange really, we went all metric over the last 40 odd years but we still use MPG as the benchmark. Ah well, Feet and inches were good enough for the Romans Thumbs Up

The 2010 has 3 trips, A, B and Auto.

Auto gives you your current trip (or you can add the previous one to it as well). Great for getting a better picture without having to reset a trip!

Also has instantaneous mpg - which is amusing as Tim points out. On a slight downward slope of the motorway the SC will happily sit at 65-70mpg Cool Land Rover Addict

You must get there faster... but spend the extra time in the petrol station. Laughing

300km? I average between 950 and 1050 km per tank.
