One for the Techie Guys on here

Eldest daughter had taken pictures on her phone when our granddaughter was born 6 weeks ago ... So she is a bit distressed at maybe losing them all together ...

So thought i would ask on here first as i know a few of you are more knowledgeable on this stuff than me ...

Problem is most of them will not open after being downloaded to her PC as it keeps saying file is corrupted preview cannot open ...

Does anyone know or used any of these jpeg software file repair companies that are on the net ...

Or can anyone recommend a decent repair one ...

TIA Thumbs Up

The most likely cause is the memory card itself becoming corrupt. In which case I doubt software would help you and may even make matters worse but interrogating an already failing memory card.

Do the photos display alright on the camera?

If so the problem corruption most likely lies in either...
1. The transfer method of the pictures to PC - you could try a different reader / usb connection maybe even to a different computer
2. The computer hard drive becoming corrupt

If the photos do not display on the camera then it is likely the camera memory card has become corrupt.

In any case - if the photos are really valuable then, until recovery takes place immediately ...
1. Do not continue to use that memory for more photos - it may be the only place that photos may be recovered from
2. Do not use the computer - it may be the only place the photos are recoverable from

Do not install software on the computer with photos - use a different computer otherwise you risk over writing photos. Howard

Just a thought. Try connecting the phone to the PC via a USB cable and accessing the phone storage directly. I'm assuming that its an iPhone which does not have a removable storage card.

If you can find the images on the phone's internal storage you may be able to copy them directly from the phone to the PC hard drive.

But if you say that you cant view them on the phone then looks like the phone has corrupted them.

Good for her!!

OK in that case you could try getting hold of a micro SD card reader and try to copy the image files directly from the SD card rather than using the phone / PC connected via USB, or the phone sync software.

As an aside, I never use the phone or camera copy by USB cable when downloading images from either camera or phone, I always use the SD / CF card reader, or the SD card slot on my laptop.

Another good idea is always have a couple of spare SD cards for either camera or phone as they can become corrupted, and ALWAYS back up your images to a PC hard drive AND an external drive!!

Is the card full?

Sometimes you can get errors like that when its getting over 85% full.

never a good idea to fill the things really as it doesn't leave much wiggle room for error correction Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I have a Galaxy S4 - whenever I take a photo it stores it online too (or atleast did until I disabled it)

Try checking that out.

Good suggestions. What about emailing or texting the photos to another phone or computer that is known to be working.
Could also try googling file recovery software. I've not done it, so I don't have a programme I can recommend.
