Wiper blade preservation in frosty weather

Just a small point but when you get home each night from now until after easter and your car has to sit outside overnight, listen to the weather forecast and check that if there is frost forecast that before you lock the car up, switch off the auto-wipers function. Usually as soon as you put the key in and switch on, if the wipers are set to auto and there is frost or ice on the screen then the sensor will try to activate the wipers - if the blades are frozen to the screen then you will shorten their life and may also damage the wiper motor. I found yesterday that despite having Park Heat activated the wiper blades where still frozen to the windscreen and the auto wipers function was on............. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

On mine if I leave auto wipers on you have to turn them off and on again every time you turn the car off. So you dont leave them on by accident from the day before and then go through a car wash the next day and rip them off I guess.

I wonder why/when they changed this...

both the RRSports that I have owned were the same, and if you engage reverse then when the front wipers come on then the rear one does too, damaging that! 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

When I had my last FFRR back in 2003, after the first heavy frost the local dealer had to replace lots of door seals under warranty/ the VIP maintenance plan as the original design used to freeze completely to the body and opening a door ripped the whole seal off where there was contact. Didn't take LR very long to come up with a new design. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Ditto for 02 model. Mine lives on Auto, just have to switch off and on again to get 'em working. .

The first sign of proper frost and it will get tucked up in its purpose made wee hoosie aka the aircraft hangar as described by mates
