Heads up for discovered subframe rust

Thought I'd give a heads up for some serious rust I've discovered on the subframe last month, as others may want to check theirs.
Vehicle is a 2010 model.

Whilst carrying out a full service and upon removal of the front plastic underside tray, I discovered a build up of crud trapped in the corner of the frame where one of the securing points for the tray sits.

Pic taken after the muck was cleaned out:

A close up:

I wire wheeled as much as I could get to before painting over again:

Admittedly, it was a quick, temporary job, as time wasn't on my side that day.
The other side also had a build up but it hadn't started to rust heavily like the this side had.
I've only had the vehicle for a year, and I know it hasn't led an off road life prior to this as the underside was only showing the usual tell-tale signs of normal road use.

So has anybody else come across this problem?

My '02 wasn't that bad when I cleaned it up, wire brushed, rust killed and hammerited in the summer, but the original paint was coming off in most places. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

It just really surprised me, as the rest of the underside is mint.

The later the cars the worse the rust issues imho... I think Ford must have changed steel suppliers or their dipping process as all 07my> (interior facelift models) rust much quicker than the BMW built earlier cars... Rolling Eyes

We'll I've cleaned as much as the underside as I can reasonably get to in order to give it a fighting chance for the future.
