My 2005 Mercedes CL 500

Ok, I'm in the market for a cheap-ish one of these. They're much cheaper in the UK than Europe and they're getting to a price now that means it doesn't matter if there's no sell on value as it's RHD.

Must be in ok condition, not silly high mileage, must be the => 2003 model with the galvanised body, decent navigation system and 7 speed gearbox, and to get past the Swiss MOT NAZI inspector - bog standard.

Ideally, black leather.

Cheers gents!

You also want the 7 speed auto and DVD Nav. 2004 or later.

It's a lovely thing. Posted it before but here was mine...:

Yes, I saw that. Really nice motor.

Think I've found one. Will update the thread as 'found' if/when the transaction goes through.

The VX is due a bit of a refurb and needs to spend some time off the road. The RR is getting a bit old to be relying on for a regular commute to Zurich. I wanted a quiet comfortable car for regular use, but not something boring or like my other cars. It was cheap to buy (£6.5k) so doesn't matter it has little sell on value here as it's RHD, has only done 58k miles, and did 28.7mpg coming back from the UK.

I will have a decision to make in the next year whether to keep the RR as the house refurb is nearing completion and maybe I sell it and the trailer. Against that, I wouldn't get much for it, and it's cheap to run more than one car in Switzerland.

Also, I need a car to compensate for my sexual decline as I approach 50. Sad

Those mercs have to be the out of the box bargain 'bahnstormer'- of modern times. Overtaking the old XKR.
all these other people that buy a car and spend thousands tuning it, are not seeing the wood for the trees.

Cl500 drifting on Nurburgring anyone?

It's a CL500 - it has 300bhp in a car that weighs +1800kg, it's not very fast. My VX220 up to most road speeds is faster.

It is quiet and comfortable though - which the VX220 certainly isn't.

I find they're a mite quicker when the 'box is in Sport mode. Sound better, too.

Our normally aspirated W210 E55, despite having a similar engine size, is significantly faster and more brutal in delivery.

But although that's reasonably quick and definitely has a dual personality, it's a pussycat compared to the big-valve high-rev nature of the 351 engine in my Mustang.

The CL500 is a very accomplished car, though. Plenty of gains to be had with some choice exhaust modifications and a remap. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

It's not that kind of car for me though. Comfy cruiser is what I wanted.

Besides the Swiss MOT NAZI inspector would have something to say about an exhaust mod.
