Which garage do you use for servicing, Nick?

Its a piece of mind knowing that its not all on the floor back up the road.

I am not sure if stealers change this when they do a oil change ? - I presume they just plug the hole with the old one.
I like to know my holes filled Big Cry - say no more

Thats a MUST - never use the old plug when changing the Engine oil as the rubber seal has been stressed.

Its the Sump plugs that - are just as important - that's where all thous lovely 700Nm Torque end up Bow down
I tried explaining this to my misses - but its goes over her head

Hears a question to all

Why - when you have a massive 700Nm Torque being produced by that lovely V8

do you have a Front Diff that only holds 0.75 liters
and the rear
Holds a massive 1.14 liters

Surly the back diffs having a laugh - the front diff is having a hell of a work out ?

No idea but we had 4 tyres fitted at the same time and the rears are wearing quicker.

Doing mine today so after a long search found that in Western Australia no one will stock Castrol BOT 720 apart from LR so I go down to the only dealer in the state , $100 Shocked and they have just one litre Evil or Very Mad but I have literally no choice and after some searching we find that Jaguar use it in their final drives as well , Jaguar labeled BOT 720 is $171 Shocked Shocked
So that will put some perspective on it when you next feel like you main dealer in the UK is ripping you off a bit .

edit

All done now , nice easy job with a bit of heat around the filler plug and out it came , oil was quite glittery but not a bad colour and after I finished I checked with the IID and I only have 57% clutch left so I might have to stop wanging it out of 90 degree junctions Embarassed and for the drain plug it is a 3/8 socket drive not 8mm .

I said I would keep an eye on this and a couple of months later I have 54% travel left , something is going away it seems . 2008 MY Supercharged

4.4TDV8 Fluids

Well, I've placed an order with Dan @ Duckworths so that I can change the following, as the 4.4TDV8 is touching 30k miles:

1. Front Diff Oil - Castrol SAF XO 75W/90 (0.75L to refill)

2. Rear Diff Oil (electronic rear diff) - SAF Carbon Mod Plus (1.5L to refill)

3. Transfer Case Fluid - Shell TF0753 (1.5L to refill)

4. And new drain plugs for the front and rear Diffs, just in case!

Point of note if if helps anyone - the above required fluids are the same specs as were required for the 4.2 SC.

Thumbs Up

Karcraft in Sydney stock the oil but can be out at and given time, such as when I wanted some for my D4 although their new stock arrived in time.

At this stage I don't know whether I'll retrofit/convert an e-diff to the RRV but the oil for the open diff is available locally from any Castrol supplier.

Put you IID tool to live values and scroll to RDTC Rear Diff and scroll down , it's actually clutch travel left not wear so in fact it might mean something slightly different .

I tried to find this today, but it's not listed in my live values. Is it vehicle specific or have you got a different version of iid to me?

The clutch travel remaining should be there but I see your's is a 2006 so I assume its a pre facelift supercharged , don't know if that means anything . I have have an ordinary and non bluetooth iiD and they both showed clutch travel . Since changing my oil clutch travel available has stabilised at 54% so old damaged/contaminated oil is clearly very damaging . 2008 MY Supercharged

Changed the rear Diff Oil this afternoon and re torqued the drain plug at 54nm and the fill plug 34nm.

Manual says refill is 1.5L. From the old oil, only 1.3L drained out. Only managed to get 1.4L new oil back in because at that point, it started overflowing slightly from the fill hole, which I find a bit puzzling.

Bit concerned too now that when reading the front diff refill manual it says if it shows signs of overflow, drain off and do it again. Although no such advice is given on the rear diff refill section. Should I be concerned enough to drain it and do again?

ps. old oil wasn't too bad a colour although there were small metal flake particles in the old oil.

There are two figures in the manual (at least in the older ones there are)

One for a fill from dry (ie a new diff) and one for a drain and refill.

Draining and refilling doesn't get all of it out.

So the 1.5l is probably fill from dry.
