handbrake light on dash flashing

The other day I was setting off from work and when I started the engine I noticed the handbrake warning light was flashing. There were no bongs or other warnings. It disengaged properly and when I got home it applied without bongs and warning light didn't flash. I was just wondering what could have caused it. Owt to worry about?

Hhhhhmmmmmmm. I'm sure I did, as I park on a steep hill in the car park at work. The gear lever was easy to move to drive. I'll try it without appling the handbrake and turn off and then back on and see if it flashes.

normally means a EPB fault - I get it sometimes after I've been jacking the car up and removing the wheels, had it the other day for the first time after doing no DIY - just need to release and re apply to clear

If it doesn't clear there is an EPB emergency release cable in the boot you can use.

Be aware - if you have enabled DRL's (side lights vs main beam) they will also flash (rears)......which can confuse other road users!

Normal reason for this error is either - system jammed or, as was my case, wading way too deep!!!!

No DRL's enabled. No stored DTC's either. I was wondering is there a setting that with auto apply the handbrake when switching off the engine? Like on the disco. There, if you want to keep the handbrake off you press the handbrake switch in the off position while you switch off.

Nope, or at least there wasn't when I had a 2010.....

My 2010 suffered like yours but only after deep wading, so might be worth getting under there and checking the connectors are snug (rear axle - top)

[EDIT] - Low battery also did this on mine...... Land Rover Addict

Not been wading since ive had it. It's had the recall (q159) but ( in my opinion) I think it's still on its way out. I've had the battery checked at the dealer and they said it was ok. It did cross my mind that the battery may cause it but dismissed it. It runs the FBH no problems, and starts ok but I've noticed on a few occasions that when I start the car the radio doesn't come back on straight away Whistle

Is the handbrake warning lamp separate from the braked wear lamp?

check the brake fluid level but i think its more likely a low voltage battery on a cold day.. ... - .- -.

It was flashing before I started the engine and carried on after the engine was started and until I released the handbrake.
Me thinks I may need a new battery.

I sometimes get this when parked on my drive which is on a slope. I can't see you needing a new battery though as I have been getting this every now and then ever since I have had the car (4 years) before and after the battery recall. Rolling Eyes

My guess is it's more to do with parking on a hill but there are no error messages in my faultmate and as it's very occasional so I'm putting it down to a "characteristic" of my car Whistle

Keeping an eye on it as I park in the same place at work every day. It's not flashed since. He says touching wood as I type. Whistle
