Tail gate seal fix

So after reading Geoff's thread ( http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic29940.html) and some help from my daughter with the jet wash I decided to see where this annoying leak is coming from once and for all.

I took out the wheel well cover and cubby hole covers as well as the trim that was damp on the rights side near the lower tail gate. I was armed with a torch and roll of blue roll tissue in the ready for the leak........and hay presto it didn't take long for the water to come in, not between the seal and the tailgate but the body work and seal tracking through!

Now I guess it was the top right corner was the issue, so I re seated all of the seal and silicone sealed the lip that the seal slides onto the body with a non set sealant that I used to use for sealing the distributer on the Land Rover 90 comp truck when deep wading.

Re-fitted the seal and a jet wash test on fine spray again to see if it leaks and it passes the test, but the real test will be when it rains properly.....which wont be long living in Wales Laughing

A few pictures to show what I found, might not fix other FF's but they do seem to like washing the spare wheel with the amount of threads on this issue!

Sealing up and did all the seal.

So if this works and have nothing to loose its worth trying this first, might save a few pennies !! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

I read on another well known social media thread I'm on, a chap was asking about the boot seal.....and thought ah yes my cheap fix...... well as a long time has gone by I can confirm no water has entered the rear boot or spare wheel well.
So it maybe worth the above fix before splashing out for a new one. Worth a try Imo. Thumbs Up If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Somehow related to this, we have a leak somewhere on the drivers door area, the A pillar interior trim is getting wet and the footwell carpet wet. We had a new windscreen fitted a couple of months back (genuine LR glass) by Autoglass (I watched them fit it!), but we still have a leak, I'm convinced that it is the door seals but cant convince SWMBO that its the seals. Passenger side is perfect but the door is not used as much as the drivers side. Am I right in my thinking??

or it could be from a blocked sun roof drain.

I would have a go at cleaning out the sunroof tubes as well, but as you've had a new screen it may be that, I had a Land Cruiser that had a perfect screen but leaked at the passenger side, no matter what I sealed it to try and fix it the passenger foot well was always wet. Big Cry, new screen and seal sorted it out in the end.

Try and replicate rain over the screen seal (or sunroof) where you think it leaks in.

Never heard about a door seal leaking though, keep us posted on out come. Thumbs Up If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.
