Water in wheel well

Is suppose it had to happen but my car seems to leak into the area under the boot floor. I guess I could just sit in the back and persuade SWMBO to get the hosepipe out and see if I can see where it's coming in from and then look at ways to stop it. OR I could be pragmatic and just drill a couple of drain holes in the boot floor - has anyone tried this is there any downside. Geoff

Feel for you there, I have just checked mine and the spare wheel is having a bath!

I notice that the right side cubby had a few water drop in there and the carpet in the corner near the tailgate was damp as well as the edge of the spare wheel cover. Big Cry The left side is bone dry though!

I have searched this a bit and found it could be boot seal or where the tow bar is bolted through, as I don't have a tow bar yet, mine could be ( not convinced mind) the seal. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Yes, I've been having a look and although I did fit a tow bar recently the carpet on the left is wet (as you look into the boot) so as its higher up I suspect the seal. In the posts £94 is mentioned for a replacement I might try first with some non setting mastic. Maybe Sikaflex 512 or similar Very Happy Geoff

Its strange as the seal is good and the tail gate shuts well on the seal, my carpet ,right side is damp on the side at about 6 ish inches up from boot floor.

A few weeks back the boot floor was an ice rink Shocked ...... Censored annoying and the weather is not letting up here so I can have a proper look either Mad If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Geoff the replacement boot seals come with NON setting sealant inside them pal... So you remove your old one and CLEAN everything up then the new one seals as you fit it Thumbs Up

If yours has been removed in its life? Then they never really seal back properly Rolling Eyes

Thanks all,
So to bodge or not to bodge that is the question?

Good news from you Dan, already saved twenty quid, might try the man maths on SWMBO: fitted a new seal and saved twenty quid in the process - sounds OK to me Laughing Geoff

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

Potentially your seal is now 11yrs old and removing/refitting it will have disturbed the already dried out sealant so, may well be your issue sir...

Have you checked the top corners to see weather it has expanded with age/rust... Bow down

I think mine may have got disturbed when they fitted a new tailgate, or more likely the new tailgate can't bed in the existing seal which was bedded in by the previous tailgate - does that make sense? Geoff

Thanks Craig, Just been out to check it has been Censored ing in - I'll try the garage later if I have time but I'm not optimistic. Everything was soaked and needed taking out so this is pretty urgent and needs doing soon - they tend to need a couple of weeks just to get in the door of the service department even though since Ryans intervention they are at least willing. Geoff
