Yes, you do need to keep an eye on it. My 07 3.6 TDV8 was more than capable of creeping up to 70 without me noticing. Thankfully the new tug has ASL which turns the cruise into a limiter.

There are plenty of long vans on a single axle Stan. As long as the axle weight rating isn't exceeded it's fine. Twin axles do tow better in my experience but they are also harder to manoeuvre in tight spaces. There are lots of good reasons to stick with a single if your storage or driveway is awkward. Also, if you're the type who likes motor movers you really need 2 sets on a twin axle for it to work well.

This really is heading into the realm of a caravanning forum with axle discussions !!

Modern design, materials and advancements (like the continental brands) mean that more and more single axle 'vans are appearing in the mainstream and have done for a few years now.

I've had both single and twin and whilst I'd 100% agree twin's traditionally towed better, with modern technology in chassis design and stability systems there really isn't much difference. 2 of our mates have recently swapped to a single axle and lost nothing more than a small bit of cupboard space. The benefit of a 360 degree spin and hand balling when needed mean that they are much easier to handle once on site or at home/storage.

One big difference; Portsmouth-Santander for me with FF and 8.10m TA = £1465....my mates Q5 + SA on same crossing is £900 due to length alone Shocked Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

that is a big Quasar. V nice.

I do like the new lunar vans, but I think that Elddis has the layout I want. Looking at it logically though we have only been away in ours 3 times this year, and really arent getting good use out of it I can't Justify spending 10k on a new van. I can barely justify keeping the one we have got at the moment!

Cheap Lunar Ultima anyone?...... Rolling with laughter only kidding SWBMO won't let me sell it as "it doesn't cost us anything to have it", except......insurance and servicing....which isn't nothing nowadays.

£1465 plus fuel and site fees? surely you could get a decent hotel for that Rolling with laughter

Every couple of years we go to Lake Garda for 3 weeks and stop at a friends house near Alba for a week.
Fuel, ferry crossing (Dover - Dunkerque), site fees, food, etc.
2,500 euro's it costs us.
Find a holiday in Italy that costs 650 euro's a week all inclusive (Flights for two, hire car, hotel, etc) and I'll eat my hat (As Paddy Ashdown famously said).

Yeah its a pretty big caravan, but the lay out was perfect for us. Good size bathroom, bunk beds for the kids and nice kitchen area. The Fullfat pulls it along like its not even there. Lunar caravans do tend to be lighter than most though, i think our one loaded up is about 1650kgs.

I'm sure there was a simply fascinating piece on obtaining a "reverse polarity 139xx_431 overcocking ultrasound oil filled coiled sprung air filled 4 ply right hand side matrix suspension valve" from a very secure in himself bloke called "Iamthelandrovergurugodmakerofall4wdsDave" .....but I may be mistaken....
