HUD

Hi All,

Being a bit of a tinkerer I'm putting together a HUD for my TDV8, there doesn't seem to be much in the way on the market, so I'm going to use a HUD film, an old android device, Torque Pro, a discrete anti-slip mat and a bluetooth snub nosed ODBII reader, I'll stick some pics up when it's done, I'm interested in seeing journey stats/instant fuel economy without having to look down at my phone near the analogue clock (I don't like trailing cables).

I did have an iPad on a holder over the MID unit, but it was actually too big and again - wrong place! Land Rover Addict

Yeah, saw them and was unimpressed because you can't change what is viewed. I want the ability to have what I want on the HUD, not what someone else thinks is what I want Smile

If it works I'll build a slimline enclosure to hide the unit from prying eyes (make it not look like a phone!), power it from IGN on and run an app to screen off/on with IGN. Land Rover Addict

Stan,

Any chance of pics of where it's mounted? I've been working too many daylight hours - it's always too dark when I go out Sad Land Rover Addict

With the Sygic app for Android, you get a HUD set up as well. It only works at night as it uses a tablet and tablets are not bright enough for HUD. I used it once and it is a nice gimmick but not great on Sygic. I prefer to have the normal screen for navigation.

There are other HUD apps but they have the same problem with light.

Garmin is selling a HUD unit and I seem to remember there are one or two on Kickstarter or Indiegogo and the likes that are also trying to do the same thing.

I would also prefer a very discrete unit that can stay in the car permanently and can be modified to show all kinds of engine data, speed, nav directions and urgent alarms. So I applaud people that try to build their own version, good luck !!! Look forward to seeing the final result including pics Wink MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

That's one of the reasons I've decided to use a HUD film on the screen where I want to project - if it's not bright enough I will investigate an android powered LED projector Smile

However for proof of concept it's so far cost me £0.99 for the mat and £1.39 for the film ..... Land Rover Addict

Exactly the place where I envisaged putting mine too - is yours wired into the reversing light or fog? Land Rover Addict

The fogs are dual filament (or magic LED's in mine) - so yeah there would be an issue there come to think of it! Land Rover Addict
