After a gearbox oil change, the adaptive values should be reset, so the box can relearn all its values/pressures/ratios

Disconnecting the battery does not reset anything, so the gearbox will adapt (eventually)

However, it should not have made anything clunky. It may be worth double checking the oil level

My point is Mickey... This is your original post above Yes? Where does it inform forum members of the information bellow? Nowhere, which makes the statement above to forum members (regardless of their mechanical abilities) "they should be resetting their gearbox adaptions when changing gearbox oil, regardless as to their milage or gearbox condition!"
You decide weather or not that is reckless! I have Whistle Rolling Eyes Yawn

It takes a trained eye to spot issues with a gearbox before a flush. If there are issues, generally, I walk away unless the customer insists on having it done, regardless of the outcome or consequences

My 07 TDV8 with 230,000 ks grarbox oil was changed 3000ks ago, and I do have this 2-1 harsh change down on occasions. Is there anything I can do. I don't believe my adaptive values were reset, and from memory I had a hard change going up in gear before occassionaly.

Anyway, to your "issues" with my post...

The viscosity of the new oil is different to old oil, you are correct. And a reset of adaptive values does clear the gearbox memory, whether it has had an oil change or not...

After a reset, the gearbox then DOESN'T see the difference in pressures, and adapts to them, instead of expecting "X" pressure, and seeing "Y", which then WILL cause the gearbox to self destruct

And all of my customers are warned to drive a certain way after a flush and reset. By not following these instructions, you can cause much, much bigger issues yourself...

Tell me again Craig, how you "specialise" in these cars?
That's duff info you have been giving out on EGR issues, Turbo issues, and now, Gearbox issues

Yawn

Actually, ZF prohibits erasing adaptions unless specifically authorized by a ZF engineer. I'm a dealer tech, have changed the fluid in hundreds of ZF trans, and have never reset adaptions.

To answer the OP, there is a bulletin for TCM software updates depending on model year, also if this was a quick lube kind of place, they probably under filled the trans. I would check the fluid level.

God, you know something the more topics on this, the more I'm confused. I think I'll just leave it until it goes bang and set fire to the car and walk away.

Can you mega flush an SC, should you reset adaptations or not, how about transfer box pre-load? change the filter or not? How man times do I have to kiss the blarney stone, which colour Kryptonite do I need to make the sump plug out of?

I'm scared to drive the b@st@rd thing now! Big Cry

Thanks for all the replies, everyone.

My car is 06 4.2SC. I will get the fluid level checked.

On my invoice:

Gearbox Filter Screen = £67.00 + VAT.
ATF Oil - 8 litres = £50.40 + VAT.
Labour = £78.75 + VAT.

I have only just realised that the gearbox service cost me £235.38 including VAT. Shocked That seems expensive.

Took the car out this morning and can't say I really noticed the 2-1 change down as much. Embarassed

You DO NOT put ordinary ATF in a ZF gear box , is this what they did ?
You need ZF Lifeguard 6 for the 6HP26 fitted to your car and it costs a damn site more than 50 quid . 2008 MY Supercharged

Hi mate, it is quite important that you do put original Lifeguard 6 in the box. Normal ATF shouldn't cause the issue of the clunk but still.

I know because I had to flush my gearbox with normal (high quality) ATF when the cooler ruptured and the Lifeguard mixed with engine coolant. Since Lifeguard is very expensive I used normal Toyota ATF (best spec) as it was available at a reasonable price and was easy to get hold of (our shop had it in stock since the fleet was mainly Toyotas). But once the box was flushed (i did drive it with the Toyota ATF after the first few flushes and it didn't make a difference) I did two changes with Lifeguard to get it back to (mostly) original.

Suggest to get that sorted to preserve your box for the long run.

There are ATFs out there that seem to have the same specs as Lifeguard 6 and I should have a list somewhere but for me it was just easier and relatively cheap to get original Lifeguard. Do a bit of a search (including our forum sponsors) for the best price for Lifeguard 6. Normally it is very expensive but I seem to remember the lowest price I found it at was around 10 quid a liter. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

No Arcle that is NOT expensive at all sir... The oil should be considerably more (£££) than that!

So far reading your posts here i would seriously consider where you take your car from here on sir Whistle As to be quite blunt they seem to be a right shower!!!

No reset on service ind Shocked
Tech not having the ability to rectify the service reset! Shocked
Gearbox fluid change woe's Shocked
(Maybe) low on gearbox oil Shocked
(Maybe) now appears the wrong fluid used in gearbox! Shocked Shocked Shocked

I would have the car somewhere else quick smart to check the whole job through! Your engine needs a particular grade & quality of oil too sir...

Craig, I'll heed your advice. I won't name the garage, but to say I'm hacked off with their service and standards is an understatement.

I originally took the car in to get rid of the screeching belt noise (cured) and the pan pipes noise and air escaping from near the N/S front wing area under hard acceleration of which neither have been cured.
