Gearbox oil change

Just wondering chaps, when I got the fatty 2 years ago, it had a recon gearbox fitted 2 months earlier, I've done about 20k in the meantime should I get the oil changed ? Thanks, Mark. 2004 vogue

Hi markyp. When I took mine to have g/box oil & filter changed, was recommended every 20,000 mls or their about, my g/box had been changed at 70,000 mls and I had no record of there being an oil change up to when I brought it, and it had 113,000 on the clock. Made a good difference to gear changes and satisfaction I knew it had been done. Thumbs Up

Changing the gear box oil every twenty thousand miles ? it's almost cheeper to let it go bang and get a replacement . Shocked 2008 MY Supercharged

I was just musing , given a likely life of gear box at 150,000 miles that is at least seven oil changes in that time and lets say for ease of maths 300 pounds for an oil change that would be the price of a refurbished gearbox . There are more realistic service schedules available i'm sure . On the 6HP26 fitted to my car it would be about 70,000 miles . 2008 MY Supercharged

dextron iii is cheaper than the lifeguard 6 in the 6 HP26 so the cost of swapping the fluids would be lower. Might be worth Just draining a refilling it every 30,000 miles with a filter change every 60,000. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cost about £130 for oil & filter change so if it prolongs the life by 20,000 mls then I'm quite happy to do that. But of course we know how our ff's can be Laughing
on another line of thought, if it were a manual gearbox, how much would we expect to pay for a clutch with duel mass flywheel, probably not far off what a referb auto would cost I would think. Paid about £600 for my 300tdi about 8 yrs ago and that wasn't duel mass.

I'm all for over servicing but I think 20,000 miles is a bit excessive, I thought ZF recommended about 80 to 100,000, so I would think 40 to 50,000 miles would be fine.....

Just my 2p.... Pete
