no its not just water, needs a 50:50 mix of pink coolant and water adding to the header tank.

it shouldn't need coolant adding as a matter of course so check the visual levels when cold and see if its in the cold fill range.

Have you had anything attached to the cooling system replaced recently, as the system can take a while to bleed through and the level will keep dropping until all the air is out of the system.

If the level seems ok then its possible the level sensor is duff. If it is low then check for leaks, there are a few hoses which are susceptible to wear under the header, and can start to bleed off fluid, they can be easily changed but they are only available as part of the entire hose assembly......

If it needs topping up a small amount then a tub of ready mix pink coolant from halfords will do the job. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks. I bought some antifreeze and topped it up today, it only took about 1/4 pint so maybe its the sensor. I will keep an eye on it. thanks for your help.

Just replaced my coolant header tank c/w sensor after being driven nuts with "check coolant level" bongs.
Straightforward job (2 bolts & 2 hoses plus sensor connector) at total cost of £35 & no more bongs'

I might be wrong but I am sure (I think) that sounds a bit daft......never mind back to what i think I may be sure about

Right, coolant warnings. don't they give a warning when the coolant goes out of spec? so you might not need any more fluid in but a complete drain and re-fill with the right % of coolant and water

As I said I could be wrong

As northernmonkeyjones said, you need a 50:50 mix of PINK antifreeze & water. This can be checked
with a antifreeze/coolant tester eg Gunson. Some say that the sensor checks the SG (specific gravity) of the coolant mix & will warn if this is out of limits - I am yet to be convinced, but no doubt someone on the forum will provide a definitive answer. After installing a new header tank/sensor, have had no further problems using existing coolant mix.

Why is the color so important? Is blue not good for the RR?

As I understand it, pink is longlife - 5 years whereas blue is only 2 years. If you mix them it reduces the pink to 2 years.
It used to be said that blue was unsuitable for engines with alloys. Don't know how true that is now. John

Pink coolant every four years regardless of mileage. According to wiki.

Depends on the engine chaps.

Afaik the tdv8 is pink and the td6 Is blue.

Different base for the coolant, pink is chemically different from blue, and never the twain shall mix! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
