Wheel alignment / tracking.. How hard can it be??

Hi, have a fairly new set of at grabber tyres fitted to my vogue and noticed yesterday that the n/s/r is wearing out on the outside edge quite badly, the other 3 tyres seem ok though.

Thought I would go and get my tracking checked this morning but after going to two garages and wasting most of the morning I'm non the wiser.

First garage I went to (A1 auto centre) had the car nearly an hour whilst I waited to then tell me they couldn't do the tracking because the settings weren't listed on there machine??? And said to go next door to quick fit as they had the latest machine.

So off I went next door, guy books it in and puts it on the ramp..come back half hour later and says it's too complicated and can't get to the front or rear to adjust and said my best bet would be to go to the main dealer.

Seriously is that the case? Surly it's a pretty basic job I'm asking? Oh and to top it off he got in my car without so much as even putting a seat cover or gloves on and his hands/overalls were filthy. What is wrong with these people.

Have you had your rear suspension bushes renewed. (Could now need adjustment) If not, they might need renewing, as rear edge wear is a sign, search here for a wiki, it will show you what is involved. It could be adjusted on a ramp, and then be out as soon as it's moving, because of play. If you find a garage that will do it, ask them to check, just lift a wheel one inch off floor, perhaps with a trolley jack under the wishbone, and using a longish crowbar as the lever, rock wheel from underneath up and down, with a hand on rear bush, and it might have play.

If you aren't too far from Ipswich, you could try Ipswich Accident Repair centre, the guys there are pretty good and do alignment for a lot of races teams.
