Flat Battery...AGAIN!

Well, it seems that my battery just could not cope with the Pre Heater this morning. I switched it on and after half an hour went to leave the house, it's as flat as a flat thing again. So, the AA are coming out to jump start me but I think I'll have to get this replaced ASAP. (Especially as I like using the pre heater on cold mornings)

I'm going to ring round my local dealers and an independent to see what the prices are like but I'm going to guess at the thick end of £200, maybe more who knows. Discovery 4 HSE

Prices gained so far vary wildly, looks like I'll be going down to my local independent again as they have come up trumps.

Bare in mind, these things have HUGE batteries, they are almost truck size, at least double the size of a standard car battery.

here's the votes so far:

Local dealer 1: £131 all inclusive

Local dealer 2: £157 all inclusive

Local Indy garage: £90 all inclusive Discovery 4 HSE

I bought my replacement at an independent and it was significantly cheaper including fitting etc... which as i have mentioned in previous feeds is a pain due to size and weight etc..

How long did this battery last ?

you could also try an agricultural machinery dealer - around the £75 to £80 ex VAT mark. They are the same size battery as some tractors, but just make sure the terminals are in the same place.

Went down to my local indy garage this afternoon, they replaced the battery and also rebalanced my front wheels for free. (Yet to see if this has worked as only got country lanes between me and them)

Not only did it only cost me £89.95, they also gave me a free 2009 calendar!

Great service from Tanvic Tyres, Melton Mowbray. Discovery 4 HSE

Wheel vibration much less than before but still noticable on braking wonder if the replaced front discs I had done a few months back have slightly warped? Discovery 4 HSE

Find it strange to be your discs especially since you have just had your wheels balanced . when you changed your discs did you change your pads as well ...........

If its a warped brake disc then it will get significantly worse when you apply the brakes - otherwiose likely to be a wheel warped, out of balance or possibly a bearing.

Yep, front discs and pads changed at the same time.

While driving there is no steering wheel wobble at all, which would suggest to a sane mind that the wheels are balanced correctly. When I'm doing over 60 mph and I feather the brakes gently rather than stomping on them, the steering wheel wobbles slightly. The car does not pull to one side.

It wouldn't be the first time that a brand new part has been at fault, if one of the discs is just slightly 'out' then this would explain the problem. My M5 went through front discs like they were made of wet cardboard, they're notorious for warping discs as they calipers were not up to the job and everything overheated and went pear shaped. I know what warped discs feels like and this is getting more and more like it!

Will give it till the new year then decide if its worth looking into again. A new set of discs are not expensive and fitting is all of an hours labour. Discovery 4 HSE
