England 2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Bonatti Grey
Steering angle plausibity

Hi all, 54 plate 4.4
only had the FF 3 weeks, Love the motor but this is getting to annoy me.

First off, normal driving around town everything is fine. No lights, bongs etc
Onto the motorway fine, upto 60, motor drops as it should.
Increasing speed, 70 ish for a few minutes then bong
ABS inactive, HDC inactive Suspension inactive error message and motor returns to normal height.
The car is still drivable

After pulling over and turning the ignition off for a few minutes then back on,
everything is back to normal, no bongs, error messages
motor drives as normal once again, drops to lower cruising height for a few minutes again and then all re-appears.

Since i already had the hawkeye i pugged this in and came up with the error
'Steering Angle Unplausable'
Looking on the internet, trying to narrow the error down i decided to invest in the IId Tool.
After going through all the setup and updating the tool, i read the fault code which came up with the same answer within the ABS ecu
1/1 29 steering Angle Plausability.

I was hoping that the tool would be a little more specific in identifying the sensors, or do i indeed need a new steering wheel sensor?

Any help would be great thanks

i Didnt no. This is the first time i have used the tool

So if i emailled them with the fault they maybe able to come up with a more specific answer


I didnt even think to consider emailling them.

I thought that as well

after ring round garages for the Hunter wheel alignment, the nearest was a kwick-fit garage.
After booking it in for last satuarday morning
I arrived, he asked me what car it was for and after i showed him the FF
he made an excuse that the electics had gone faulty and had been sent back to bosch.

Needless to say, thankfully it never happened

I had that in the disco (or something similar) the Censored head at the garage had hit the calibrate steering angle sensor button on his diagnostics with the wheels pointing in the wrong direction!

Was sorted by recalibrating. The car thinks it should be going round a corner but all the other sensors tell it that it isn't, so it throws a wobbly.

Steerng angle reset should hopefully sort it There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I would agree, had the same thing in my Discovery. Fitted new tyres and fella recommended a 4 wheel alignment, 5-6 months later same symptoms. Turned out they had incorrectly aligned the car and over the months it kept compensating until it had reached its limits. Had a full alignment done (reputable indy) and the steering angle reset. No more 'bonging' and hitting the floor. Porsche 993 Targa, Buick Skylark Convertable 1968

I had the exact symptoms the op had, bongs, suspension dropped to the floor and lots of error messages.

All I wanted them to do was enable the fbh remote module!!!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

thanks for all the help and sorry for the delay as i am away during the week with work commitments and limited internet.
Received an email back from Patrick with this response


1/1 29 steering wheel plausability.

This fault would be related to the steering wheel angle sensor. These are prone to fail on these vehicle. When they do, the ABS/HDC ECU is not happy and will light up the warning lamp on the instrument pack. If it is not turned ON, I would simply clear the fault and not bother about it.

So now the dilemma is do i get the sensor replaced then do the 4 wheel alignment
or
do i just go for the 4 wheel alignment hoping that this cures the fault

You could try ensuring wheels are dead straight ahead and then go through the steering angle reset process with the IID tool. That may fix the issue. It sounds as mentioned that the last alignment done the wheels were not straight ahead when sensor was reset. I can't see it doing any harm given the current situation. I would then have car alignment done to make sure all is nice and straight Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Update..

after going around a few 4 wheel alignment places equipped with the Hunter machinery,
these machines seemed to have the SAS grayed out on all Land rover models.
Getting desperate, i went round to my local indie, who advertises 4 wheel alignment.
After chatting with a mechanic, he duly pointed at the local ATS garage down the street.
'We send all the motors there.'

So 40 minutes later, the job was finished.
Apparently the tracking was was out.
I could see alterations being made via a computer screen in the waiting room
I went for a test drive and normal service has been resumed.
