iPad problems

Bought two of these iPads and every now and again they seem to lose the Wi-Fi connection , one is the 16gb 3g version (Daughters) , the other is the 32gb Wi-Fi version (wife's, can't see the Pac-Man screen very well on her iphone) Big Cry .

To stay connected i have to stay quite close to the router (which is probably crap) Thomson 02 brand, then when upstairs in the house they won't even connect to the Sky Netgear router.

Have heard that Apple have problems with the WiFi in these iPads but are trying to keep it quite as there are no software updates that can rectify it.

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with them ............ Thumbs Up
Or could anyone recommend a router with good coverage . Instead of having two separate broadband providers .

Hey Mick,

What encryption are you using on the routers... I think you may have WEP enabled...

I think the ipad drops the connection quite quickly to save battery life...

WPA2 it seems, reconnects after it times out or drops.

Just check your encryption settings on the router mate, it could be as simple as that.

Edit: The Thomson routers used by 02 are not that bad, pretty quick in my opinion.

There are all sorts of options to get your 02 wifi round the house...

Mick, I have the previous generation of that router and it is excellent - I have my PC and laptop connected by LAN cable and the iPad, iPhone and internet radio connect wirelessly without any problems - the only problem I have is bandwidth that disappears after 4pm everyday and isn't very good (max is 2-3mbps) during the day. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Cheers Tim, Thumbs Up

I have two desktop PC's connected via ethernet cables straight into the 02 router as well as 1 desktop PC and laptop connected via the develo ethernet connection that goes into the 02 router then into the main electricity supply wall sockets.

1 desktop PC that goes into the Sky Router via ethernet cable in the upstairs part of the house which neither of the iPads and an additional Laptop can connect to properly , but they can pick up the signal all be it one bar from the 02 router but in doing so takes a while for anything to load up.

Yet the wife's IP3GS and my IP4 along with the daughters Android phone can connect to the 02 Router
and the 2 Nintendo Wii's can connect to the Sky Router Banging Head Banging Head

The tech guy in PC World told me that having 9 Cordless phone's around the house could interfere with the routers Thud

FFS Mick, you are a legend... 9 cordless telephones... Bow down Bow down

I'm surprised that when someone rings you, your whole streets wifi doesn’t go down… Laughing

I would get 5GHZ phones so they don’t interfere with your wifi which is normally 2.4GZ range

I don't rate the Belkins, people no doubt will disagree, just my experience.

I would start with the encryption first, might just work. Simple as that….

9 Cordless phones LOL Laughing Laughing Bow down

Mick, so changing the encryption didn't work or you could not get it to work??

It's really hard suggesting equipment, especially wireless... What works at one house has problems at the next.

I really like the draytecs http://www.draytek.co.uk/ but not easy to set-up like netgear etc.

I normally put in test equipment if I can and then let the client decide what's best after testing it.

Do you have an "iT LAD" near you that provides this service.

If not... if you pay, I'm willing to fly (business class) to your home and stay in a 5 star hotel with my family for the weekend to help you out mate. Razz

I can get them cheaper than that m8....

If you do go that route, let me get it for you, give me your broadband details and I will configure my end... Firewall etc.. So all you have to do is plug it in and it works...

It does mean that I will have access to your bank details though... Laughing Laughing

only kidding about the bank details, but the offer is there anyhow...
