Tyres tread depths on a car you are buying.

I may be picking here, but this seems a bit wrong when you are buying a car for about 40k.

Tyres tread depths.

Quote:
Our service guys have had a look at the tyres and they are
4mm, 6mm, 4mm, 7mm, Spare 3mm.

All the tyres fall within our Land Rover minimum standards
However we will change the NSF (4mm) as it has a slit in it

I mean, yes 3 or 4mm is legal. But would you expect to be buying tyres within a few months of buying the vehicle?

You could try and be nice to negotiate to get the 3 and 4mm tyres changed.

If that fails, you could say keep the vehicle, I don't want it and see what happens. (Nothing to lose).

or, when you get it..Go buy identical tyres for the whole lot... Whistle Wink Laughing

I understand how you feel though.

Bought a 2008 300c for Chrysler Main Dealer last year with new tyres on rear and 4mm on front and they put brand new Pirelli's on no argument....

i would play it nice ,but if you get no positive response and at the point you are in the buying process it would be difficult to tell them to stuff it ... ... - .- -.

They still have a few thousand miles on them at that rate, as long as the wear is even. Personally if I was selling a car and someone said "these tyers are half used, I want new ones" I'd not budge an inch...

I'd be more worried about the massively uneaven wear there.

Isn't it all just a factor of the price? If someone offered me a RR at 10k under value I wouldn't give a flying hootch about worn tires. Similarly, if I was selling a RR and got an offer at 10k over list - I'd gladly put on new tires (at 10k I'd even put on a set of 22"s if that's what was wanted). And personally, when buying a car, I'd prefer to pay less and pick my own tires/shop (rather than having to deal w/ probs such as RRUK had...).

Another option could be to ask the dealer what the trade price would be for him to supply and fit a full new set of the brand/size you fancy and start with a full set of new tyres overall and you keep the 6 and 7mm as spares. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I agree it depends on the overall deal. A Friend bought a car (Audi) recently from main dealer at a a great price, approx 2k less than anywhere else in the country and a superb spec.

Two tyres were at 3mm which was within their standard (3mm!!!!) but when asked to change they had no money in the deal. They showed the original invoice to confirm etc. So get decent tyres and pay 2k more or get in effect a car from a main dealer at trade in money but need to tyres in a few thousand miles?

It has Pirelli all round. We have agreed to pay 50% each towards cost of tyre(s) so that's OK. Thumbs Up
