mot due. what do I need to look out for ?

Mot is due in the next few weeks. I remember seeing on this a while back that you need to make sure that these cars are in N when they do the roller brake test ? Is that the case or if not is there anything I need to make sure they don't do ? I will wait while its done so can keep an eye on them when they're doing it Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

No need to worry they do not do a brake test on the rollers, they use a device that they put in the car, drive it down the road and jump on the brakes to measure G forces or something of that nature. They will also issue you with advisery on covers under the car.I would advise taking off these covers to check the brake pipes as mine split on the way home after the test!A bit of a mockery really when a little car gets a stringent brake test and a 3 tonne bus gets waved through!!

No advisory for covers when mine went through last month, so that means either

A) My car doesn't have them, or
B) They didn't check what was behind them? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

My rangie went through MOT today and they did the road test for the brakes, the trad roller system cant be used on 4 wheelers due to the braking efficiency being shared across 2 axles and 99% of mot stations only have one rolling road . So they use a G meter strapped into the passenger seat...neat

and It passed with no advisorys , although he said I should get a waxoyl done if im planning on keeping it

my front cover was off anyway but middle cover was on , they let me go under the car with them right through the MOT and they could see everything that they wanted to .... no dramas

A tapoly meter is what they use... Thumbs Up

They cannot/must not brake test a FFRR on the rollers as its permanent 4WD... Exclamation

4 wheel drive cars have never realistically been done on the rollers because of the risk of drive train damage. And how would you check the transmission hand brake that locks all 4 wheels?

However it is permitted if the garage has a four wheel rolling road brake tester, but they're very expensive and few of them will bother to make the investment - why would they?

The Tapley tester can also be used on any car as a back up if the roller tester breaks down i think.

They're clearly something from another era, but if it works why change it.

Mark, make sure your handbrake is set proper.y. They can become too loose and they can fail u on this.

yes, they should take it for a short 5 min road test for the brakes... you should do the obvious checks first yourself though..... ie test jets/fill water wash bottle. cracked number plates, check wiper blades are not split, and bulbs are all good. (no errors on dash) and a free tyre check at a tyre fitter if you are in doubt. this can stop you having an 'easy-fail' and having then to get this work done, and having to rebook the car etc. if you submit the car a month early, the new test will run for the 13months. so you wont lose any last remaining days, and you wont get a shorter 'year' on your new test certificate. take old one with you.

I don't think it matters if you take the old certificate with you since they went computerised. I may be wrong.
