I cut the end off a 14mm allen key and used a 14mm 1/2in drive socket rather than buying the ready made hex drive (being a Scot Very Happy). As it only required a short length of it, the allen key was still usable as such afterwards.

If you did the same and cut the length so that it fitted the plug with just enough protruding to get a ratchet spanner (or an open ender) on it solidly you should have sufficient clearance.

You won't get a torque wrench on it but that shouldn't present any great problem in tightening it up sufficiently.

I just cut down a 14mm allen key so that it fitted in the gap.

14mm Allen sump key and a spanner is all that's required. Short than 1/2" drive tools and able to fit into tight spaces Thumbs Up

without using the ratchet to fully remove, can you not use a spanner on the hex key (on the socket) to wind it out... ring spanner over first, locate, and presto
