diff service price ?

Got a quote today from a local land rover specialist for front and rear diff oil and transfer box oil £80 for all 3. does that sound about right ? seems pretty cheap. also got a price for the transmission fluid flush and refill £350 from the same place. although i think i will go to mackies for that as they are around the same price. i asked makies for a price on the diffs but they said it depends how much old oil they can get out ???

Anyone had the transmission fluid changed ? how did you find it afterword, much difference ?

Im unsure about getting the transmission fluid changed as the car drives faultlessly at the moment at 90k miles. some people seem to think if its not broke don't fix it when it comes to auto boxes. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

There is only a ltr of oil in the diffs...

Your not fixing it, your servicing it, oil has a shelf life and if yours is original then it will be past that....

I'd change it.... it's the power flush that usually gets bad press but there again people usually leave it until they have a fault, change the oil, box goes bang so they blame the oil change???!!! Pete

Changed the oil on the 6hp26 in my tdv8 and was smoother once done. Did it at about 60,000 hasnt caused me any problems am now on 72k. Also did the diff oils at the same time, it is a fairly special/uncommon oil for the diffs and can be tricky to get hold of the exact stuff so got mine from Dan at duckworths. But as Pete said it only takes a small amount.

It isn't a fill to the top thing tho, needs a specific level/quantity as given in rave. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Don't leave your gearbox oil too long. ZF recommend chagning it between 50-75k, depending on use. Ignore the LR interval of 150k

I flushed my own oil at 115k, but the damage was already done. Gearbox is Censored

How do I find out the level I need to fill the diffs to ? Can't find any diy guides on this. And if I could find a decent guide I would be happy to do the diffs myself . Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

6hp26 is recommended for change by ZF at 60,000 if heavily used/towing and 100k for standard use afaik so 60k-70k is an ideal time to swap the oil out.

Rave is your friend for the diffs, have a look on the wiki👍 or for lazys http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic17623.html for 06-> though not sure it covers 4.4 ajv8, it does the Sc and tdv8 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That is worryingly cheap for the diffs & transfer box! Beware... Would cost more than that just for the correct oil from Dan... Whistle

Correct oils on here

http://www.fullfatrr.com/wiki/Recommended_Lubricants pretty sure that it's tyk50010 for non locking front and rear diffs on mine, and the sc, wood hazard a guess that the 4.4 on there is the Bmw engine though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I thought so myself. Funny thing is they charge the going rate for the transmission service ? Quote was from Monarch Garage Glasgow, local land rover specialist. Seemed to know their stuff . Anyone had any dealings with them ??? Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

Called alpine transmissions today to price the diffs and transfer box. they said that they would need to price the oil but they knew it was specific stuff thats needed, said it would be around £230 - £250. He had a quick look for the oils while i was on the phone and told me that the transfer box oil was £40 a litre because the car has the terrain response system, i told him that my car does not have this and is still the older interior setup but he said that its telling him that its the same oil that must be used. does this sound right ?

Would i be aswell ordering the oil myself and taking it to them then just pay the labour charge ? not sure if some places wouldn't like this as they want the mark up on the oil also, but i just want to make sure its the correct oil used Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

Using the info in the Wiki the correct oil for your transfer box as supplied by either Castrol or LR is no more than £15 per litre.
Given that you only need 1Litre £40 per litre seems generous, must be Christmas. Very Happy
Provided you have the correct tools changing the diffs and transfer box is not a difficult job.
Can you not find a local garage to do the job if you supply the correct fluids?

The usual procedure is to keep pouring the new oil on thro the fill hole until it can't take any more and it starts to drain out, then you put the plug back in. Thumbs Up
The worst part of the job can be getting the drain and fill plugs loose if they have been in for a while, once they are free the job is easy.
It's sometimes worth undoing all the plugs and retightening them one day just to be sure you won't have a problem when you come to change the oils.
Car needs to be on the level for the above.
