United States 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Scotia Grey
2015 RR ATB back in for more service ...

Took the RR back in to service this morning. Three issues. Two I noticed while driving around on Sunday and one while standing in front of the RR while waiting for service

1) Leather trim that goes around the infotainment screen was not replaced properly when they were fixing the Rattle Problem. It is not flush, sticking out on lower right corner, probably not clipped in right. I tried to push the raised side in and it moved but did not catch on anything.

2) I ran some errands on Sunday and noticed that a couple of times when I got to my destination I couldn't turn the gear knob back to P/park. It was the first time I drove it in S/sport, so not sure if there is something wrong or I wasn't doing something correctly, but I never had problems shifting before. Service will take a look.

3) As I was standing in front of the RR waiting for the service advisor to come out, I looked at the grille and noticed it was cracked. There is a crack right through the gray plastic that goes around the grille, in the dark atlas color. It is on the lower right section which is the thinner side. There is no other mark on the RR that could have been an impact. SA said they would order a new one under warranty. I know it wasn't there when I dropped the RR off for the rattle problems because I had spent a lot of time looking at the grille and deciding whether I wanted to get the ATB Black grille or get it wrapped.

I am lucky that I'm a stay at home mother and have flexibility with my time, specially now that the kids are teens. I couldn't imagine having to deal with these issues otherwise ... who has the time for this crap! Maybe I'm part of some reality show or experiment and no one told me about it!!

My loaner this time around is big red Tahoe ... whoever Chevy hired to design the drivers seats should be tar and feathered!

At least the rattle problem seems to be completely gone (knock on wood). 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

Mar 17, 2015 - 12pm - Picked up the RR. Leather trim piece around navi screen re-attached correctly and now sits flush and secured. Grille replaced with a new one. They did not detect any issue with the knob gear selector, so it might have been user error on my part, since I had never used the S/sport setting before Sunday. You press down from D to S, but not when going back to park.

We are discussing compensation with service and LRNA customer support since they've had the RR 1/2 the time of ownership and driven more miles on it than I had. Service and LRNA CS each point to the other when you ask who makes that decision!

Java, the rattle was being caused by the audio control module (ACM). The infotainment screen and all the guts behind it, as it was explained to me. There was something loose in there that would vibrate and produce the rattle sound through the audio. It did not sound like a speaker sound, so I can see why it was hard to diagnose.

Really hoping not to have to go back to service till my one year complimentary service! 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

Had a nice ride today with my 13 year old son. He complained the RR V8 was slow ... I asked if he knew how fast we were going ... we were doing 80 mph ... smooth and quiet ride, which made him think we were going much slower Cool

Got caught in some highway traffic on the way home and I showed him the fine tradition of opening the windows and cranking the sound all the way up on a warm spring evening ... I let him choose the music and adjust the bass and sub. Good times Very Happy 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

That reminds me of my late afternoon drives with my youngest daugther (3 at the time) in the 4.2 on Banana Island in Lagos. Windows open, roof open, loud music and just touring around (quite slowly as it is like a suburb past the house of one of Africas billionaires, the owner of Globacom).

My youngest notices EVERY SINGLE Range Rover on the road and I promised her, her own (model) Range Rover once I pick up a job again Smile.

Sounds like you are raising your boy well in the luxury of a very fine car (when they are not rattling or making other unwanted noises/smells and other emissions of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Well, it was good while it lasted ... the Rattle Is Back Crying or Very sad

The last fix by service lasted 6 days (200 miles), but obviously they did not find/fix the true source of the rattle, which must be a wire with a short or damage, somewhere in the RR.

Interesting that when new it took 280 miles for the rattle to show up and this time after they replaced the ACM it took 200 miles for it to come back.

Back to the service department on Monday ... 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

I'm in a battle with another manufacturer at the moment over two prominent rattles on a very expensive new car. Rattles apparently are 'to be expected' and are not grounds for rejection...well certainly in the UK. Not sure how I feel about that...

Autobiography, I wouldn't accept that, when much cheaper cars can come out of the production line and have no rattles.

I can accept squeaks and slight rubbing sounds when some interior panels move together, and I have some of those, but my rattle comes through the sound system and is loud enough to be heard over engine/road noise and even the radio ... not accetable at any price point. If you test drove a car on the lot and it made this rattle sound, there is no way anyone would buy it.

Can you imagine if they gave a Range Rover with my rattle to the auto shows/magazines for their review shows/articles? They would destroy LR with their writeup, specially if after 3 weeks service and a LR specialist could not figure how to fix it. 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

Yes I agree totally. However, I am very stuck with Mercedes as they are proving hard to deal with. They even described me as a 'fussy' customer!

Autobiography, sorry to hear that. We've had 2 Mercedes that have been trouble free with excellent service from our nearest MB dealer. Don't give in or give up just yet.

Here are some of the reasons why I bought the Range Rover and why the rattle noise in my RR is not normal or acceptable ...

From the RR website:

"Refinement is inherent in Range Rover. It is beautifully appointed and thoughtfully designed to cocoon and give a sense of calm and luxurious comfort."

From the RR brochure:

"To drive the Range Rover is to experience effortless elegance. From some of the most demanding terrains to negotiating rush hour city traffic, it delivers a relaxed, intuitive and rewarding drive."

From several reviews:

- "At motorway speeds, the wind gently rushes along the sides, tyre noise is a murmur not a roar. It’s a very civilised way to travel, not unlike how I’d imagine a Rolls or Bentley SUV. So forget hustling: enjoy the comfort and quiet, because the Rangie does serene progress like few others."

- "It smoothes the worst of Detroit's potholes to the point where you don't feel them -- other automakers can only dream their SUVs rode this well. It is whisper quiet going down the road (again, like a luxury sedan). Overall, this is a smooth, quiet driving experience."

- "The Range Rover is mausoleum-silent on smooth surfaces, and on harsher coarse chip only adds the equivalent volume of shuffling feet on a stone floor. Engine noise suppression eclipses most cars, regardless of price."

I didn't receive the RR described by LR in their marketing materials or by the press when reviewing their test/loaner Range Rovers. As I drive listening to the loud rattle, I am certainly not getting the cocooned, calm, relaxed and rewarding drive that was advertised by LR! 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)

March 23, 2015 - Dropped off the RR back at service for the on going rattle that they have not been able to fix. It is an electrical interference/sound that gets amplified through the audio system. Fourth attempt at figuring out the problem.

As of today March 26, 2015, I have owned the 2015 RR for 62 days and it has spent 30 days in service, so LR has had my new RR for 48.4% of the time owned. 2015 RR ATB (Scotia Grey w/Cirrus-Ebony)
