Service indicator?

mine is coming up to its first service - I had a call from the dealer. However, the dash has yet to remind me. Anyone know how far in advance it lights up?

As far as I understand it, the service light coming on is influenced by the driving style but I stand to be corrected.

The dealer appears to be working on the basis that your FF is coming up to a year old and not related to mileage. John

I always stick to what the car tells me

IMHO if the engineers thought the car needed a service every year - then thats how they would program it - the car knows what the date is Thumbs Up

The dash displayed service required when mine turned a year old, not in advance.

My car would show a message like "Service required in 1,800 miles" once.

Subsequent messages would just say "service required" rather than showing a reduced mileage.

The service indicator generally coincides with the anniversary of buying the car (apart from some additional services required due to a design fault in the SDV8 engine).

I seem to recall that mine warned, as mentioned above, at 1800 miles and then again at a much smaller mileage giving me absolutely no chance at getting a service slot at the local dealer. Once past the due mileage (for me it is mileage as the typical annual mileage is 20k) the dreaded spanner shows up at every start up.

Slightly confused, my old L322 was dependant on how you drove, but as you say, mine came up around every 12-13 months and around 14-15k, but my L405 4.4 Diesel schedule says every 12months or 16,000 miles, whichever is sooner, so I thought they'd done away with the service indicator (or maybe there to warn you when you were xxxx miles off the next 16000 mile service) , have I got this wrong ? Steve

I think that the basic interval is the 12month/16k but this may shorten if you are working the car harder. The only basis I have for that is that my first L405 was first serviced earlier than 16k. The second service was then 16k after that. Haven't seen any documentary evidence.
